Projectimani
Aug 2024 - nowFounderProject Imani is a youth-led initiative dedicated to empowering young people from marginalized communities by providing them with the tools and platforms needed to drive meaningful change. Our mission is to harness the energy, creativity, and potential of youth to address critical social issues and promote positive transformation in their communities. This year, Project Imani is focusing on two major campaigns: eradicating period poverty and increasing civic education and engagement.Menstrual Equity Initiative: Aligned with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), this initiative aims to combat period poverty by providing essential menstrual health resources and education. Our first event, held on the 20th of August 2024 at Jilca Academy in Kakamega County, successfully educated 13 girls and 14 boys (ages 10-16) on menstruation, its management, and the effects of period poverty. For girls, we covered topics on menstrual health management, while boys were taught about menstruation, the importance of supporting girls, and dispelling common myths. We leveraged partnerships with Huru International, WASH United, The Bloom Africa and Jilca Academy. In total, we raised $298 (38,600 KSH) to support the facilitation of this initiative.C Starts With U (CSWU) Initiative: Aligned with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), this civic education campaign empowers young people with the knowledge of their civic rights and responsibilities. By engaging youth in discussions around governance and democracy, we aim to create informed voters who can demand better governance and development-driven leadership. So far, the initiative has impacted 10 young people, and we are actively working to enhance and expand the program’s reach.I lead a team of 20 dedicated volunteers who assist in administrative tasks, ensuring the smooth execution of our initiatives.
