A first line management role, overseeing a team of officers and their investigations, attendance at calls, handling of detainees and workload. I attended major incidents and supervised the investigation and scene management. Keeping the roads safe through proactively targeting criminals, enforcing legislation, and denying criminals use of the road. I attended serious injury and fatal collisions, making sure investigations could take place on behalf of the coroner. Working in Weetwood and Chapeltown districts, I progress through patrol to neighbourhood policing and proactive policing – targeting criminals associated with drug dealing, robbery, and burglary. My work involved investigating crimes, communicating extensively to the public, safeguarding children, and finding missing persons.

Leading a team of 350 officers in 5 teams across Leeds, I set strategic objectives which focused on community reassurance, early intervention and problem solving. This enabled us to make a long-term impact in reducing anti-social behaviour and preventing and deterring crime. Focussing on the areas most at risk, I worked through a shared agenda and held regular team accountability meetings which continuously improved our neighbourhood policing service delivery and kept our objectives in clear focus.I worked with partner organisations at a strategic level, influencing their agendas and secured additional resources to support priority neighbourhood areas and inner-city communities. Alongside this, I also managed critical and serious incidents, performed Superintendent PACE duties, had oversight of District Strategic Engagement Officers, and the Counter Terrorism Prevent agenda. ✓Skills & expertise further developed: Strategic leadership • Partnership Working • Decision Making • People Leadership Show less Overseeing the district control room, the contact management unit, operational development unit and 40 custody cells, I headed up a team of 250 staff with the remit to improve our performance and processes in Leeds. As the district contact for staff discipline matters, I dealt with the professional standards department and ensured effective performance management plans were in place. I had responsibility for managing the policing of all events in Leeds which ranged from small community events to large events at Leeds Arena and involved careful consideration of the threat and risk posed by each event. ✓Skills & expertise further developed: Leading Operations • People Leadership Performance Management • Process Improvement • Public Order Show less Promoted into this senior interim role, I led all operational functions in Leeds, planned events with partners, established priorities and areas for improvement and led on ethical crime reporting. I successfully led the call management function during a major force change in this area. Demonstrating clear understanding of risk across all departments, I planned, coordinated, and applied resources enabling us to robustly meet this risk, tackle crime and reduce fear of crime in the district. I oversaw the People responsibilities for 1800 staff, had accountability for an additional 250 Student Officers and led the training plan for the entire district. Successfully fulfilling this role played a key part in securing a permanent Superintendent post the following year. Additional role: Chair of British Association of Women in Policing Network (2016-2018). ✓Skills & expertise further developed: Leading Operations • Senior Leadership • HR • Change Management Show less Appointed into this project management role as part of a dedicated project team on the Programme of Change, People and Culture Fusion, we worked with a team of external consultants to deliver cash savings in line with austerity measures and budget cuts. A review was made of all support functions including finance, estates, fleet, corporate services, HR, learning and development and professional standards. My area of focus was changing the culture and leading project communications. ✓Skills & expertise further developed: Project Management • Change Management • Consultancy • Communications Show less My objective in this role was to make sure Criminal Justice worked for communities, delivered value for money and consistently supported victims and witnesses. With day to day oversight of Criminal Justice function, I also reviewed all functions and departments in the portfolio. Against a backdrop of national process change in the Courts and CPS, I carried out 4 major reviews across 8 departments which included 340 staff and a £9.3m budget, identified new efficiencies and drove the changes needed to improve working practices. This was backed up with setting up a new governance structure which incorporated partner agencies and we measured our progress against pre-determined milestones. These reviews delivered savings of £340K and an additional £350K investment back into front line policing. In tandem with this review, I led the Rape and Serious Sexual Offence file build approach in the force and worked with the CPS to deliver a new Gatekeeper role which substantially increased our force’s performance. I delivered the 2-tier pilot of conditional cautions and set up an OPCC chaired scrutiny panel with partner agencies, enabling us to effectively protect and divert the most vulnerable members of the community and children away from crime. I led custody services across the force, made sure we had strong processes and services in place and were operating in line with HMIC guidelines and best practice. This led to praise and a positive rating from a HMIC inspection in recognition of our care shown to detainees by custody staff. During this time, I also oversaw critical incidents, linked with the Assistant Chief Constable to agree firearm plans and commanded the subsequent operations which required accurate threat and risk assessment. ✓Skills & expertise further developed: Criminal Justice • Driving Change • Governance • Cost Savings • Leadership • Decision Making • Risk Assessment Show less As Inspector, I was appointed into multiple roles during this time, working at the forefront of special projects, change, best practice, and neighbourhood policing, including: • Inspector – Programme of Change, HQ (2014) Improving effectiveness and efficiency across all business areas. • Inspector Support, Wakefield (2012-2014) Working with the senior leadership team on small to large scale specialist projects. • Inspector, Neighbourhood Policing Teams Support (2009-2012) Working in partnership with organisations including Local Authority, housing providers, councillors, and MPs to tackle crime in Wakefield. • Inspector, NSIR Manager, Registrar and Audit, Corporate Review (2005-2009)Implemented the National Standards which I had created at the Home Office, then became the Deputy National Crime Recording Standards Registrar – making sure all crimes were recorded in line with national guidelines. Home Office Secondment, London (2003-2004) An 18-month secondment living in London and working in the Police Standards Unit as Project Manager on a nationwide project to standardise call recording. Visited the FBI in the US to identify their best practice. • Castleford Patrol Inspector (2002-2003) Leading the policing response and managing neighbourhood issues. • Force Duty Officer (2000 – 2002) Line managing 100 call centre staff responding to 999 emergency calls. Superintendent of Police

As Superintendent, I led a team of 400 officers and together we took care of communities in Yorkshire and made them safer. Occupying this senior leadership role involved working across policing, the health services, Local Authority and third sector organisations to create a joint working approach and help people who needed support at earlier stages of their lives achieve a better outcome. This included setting up leadership and people meetings to identify families at risk and working in collaboration with children’s and adult services, health care, religious groups and multiple community organisations. I led the Bradford Neighbourhood policing and all partnerships relating to safeguarding in the district. With emphasis on creating safer communities, we protected the most vulnerable through managing the partnership response to safeguarding including children, domestic incidents, vulnerable adults and people subject to exploitation or missing. On call duties and operational duty cover was an integral part of my role and involved overseeing serious and major incidents. Adhering to strict regulations (RIPA, PACE) I made decisions which related to; authorising non-intrusive covert surveillance; extending custody detention; extending bail and Domestic Violence Protection Orders. Successful delivery of policing strategy was made possible through effective budget management, determining priorities, improving organisational performance, and managing the performance and wellbeing of police officers and staff. ✓Skills & expertise further developed: Strategy • Senior Leadership • Partnership Working • Relationship Management • Safeguarding • People Leadership • Financial Leadership Show less
