    • Aztec Shops Computer Store

      Jan 1988 - Jan 1991
      Manager

I led a team of 22 young tech-savvy employees. Together, we did amazing things, like tripling the sales, expanding our relationship with Apple, IBM, HP, Toshiba, and Microsoft. We innovated with our GM (Phil Robbins) to offer portable computer rentals, built a Computer Fair that had nearly 30,000 attendees one year, traveled around the country training other computer stores (CCRA), and becoming one of Steve Job's "First 50" NeXT resellers. We had very little turn-over in employees, as we built a tight group of innovative sellers, merchandisers, technicians, trainers, etc. Show less

    • Business Owner / Investor

      May 1998 - now
Consultant, Investor, Business Owner, Trainer, Business Mentor, Public Speaker, Entrepreneur

I help empower business owners in the Trades, in technology firms, start-ups, e-commerce, and parts distribution. I currently do consulting work in these fields.I've enjoyed starting businesses in the Trades ( Piping and a Commercial HVAC firm), a Property Management firm, and a firm that specs and manufactures products in Turkey and China. It has been especially rewarding, over the years, to encourage young entrepreneurs in starting (or growing) their own businesses. The model I believe in encourages 'giving back,' faith, empowering all employees, and using the business as a vehicle to change lives and improve our community. The common denominator has been to search out good men & women and support them in their dreams (while giving back to the Community). Show less

    • BlueHornet Networks (BHN), a Digital River company

      Jan 2000 - Jun 2009
CEO, then GM/VP role (after D.R. acquisition)

Initially, I volunteered as an "Interim CEO" to help guide this SaaS start-up. It had one employee, a couple of Founders, and a few interns. I had so much fun growing this team of BRILLIANT young technologists and software developers that I accepted the full-time CEO role. For the first few years, I also assumed the role of the main investor to get us through the DOT.com bubble 'burst' and turbulence. We made it and thrived. We built one of the early email marketing / loyalty platforms (SaaS) and became a leader in anti-SPAM efforts (promoting double opt-in, etc.). We grew fast with big brands (Coca-Cola, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, CitySearch, Microsoft, etc.), while giving back to the community nearly every month. Our success came, in part, to an approach that focused on the client, making him / her a serious part of our product dev cycle. With a recurring revenue model, BlueHornet was very profitable and efficient, only growing to 54 employees by the time of my departure. I leveraged my Channel Partner experience at Microsoft to promote a channel sales strategy. In fact, our channel sales grew to 50%+ of our total revenue, with key Resellers / partnerships lasting to this day. During my leadership, we had nearly no turnover in employees. I had the best team I could have asked for. They were amazing. Later, I funded some of those same employees' start-up ideas.I led BlueHornet through a successful acquisition by Digital River and worked (as a GM) during the entire earn-out period and transitioned the leadership roles to Gerry Widmer and Susan Tull "without a disruptive ripple in the water," as Sr. Executive at Digital River described it. • Schwalm, Inc. (DBA AnyRVparts.com, RVwaterFilterStore.com, Schwalm Wholesale Parts)

      Apr 2018 - now
      Co-Owner

I have enjoyed being a co-owner and working to build a tight-knit team, since 2018. We have continued the legacy of these companies. Schwalm, Inc. is over 45 years old and a well-respected name in the RV space. I have had the honor to help my friends / co-owners to expand into new areas, such as the F.B.A. marketplace and important dealer relationships. We operate with multiple D.B.A.s (AnyRVparts.com, RVwaterFilterStore.com -founded in 1992, and Schwalm Wholesale Parts). The most important part of my experience here has been to find and develop / support / encourage amazing team members that have a very high standard of excellence in product / industry knowledge and customer service.
