      My first ‘career’ role after graduating, these two years (including a sandwich year in 1982) enabled me to put the theory into practice across a number of disciplines under the watchful guidance of experienced professionals at Conrad Ritblat which enabled me to quality as a Chartered Surveyor in 1985.

      Initially joined as a Qualified Surveyor in the Portfolio Management Team, progressing to the Retail Development Team in 1988 as Development Manager and appointed Development Director in 1996. The diversity of roles with Land Securities provided me with the skills to become involved in all aspects of property, investment and development. Land Securities undertook major redevelopment projects predominantly within UK historic cities, merging innovation and sustainable regeneration to create viable retail led projects. Made a real contribution towards business growth through effective portfolio management, urban regeneration and overseeing major retail led developments, with key projects planned, designed and delivered including: Retail led projects: Exeter City Centre, a 55,000m² major retail led regeneration project completed in 2007. Canterbury City Centre, a 60,000m² retail led project completed in 2005.Summerland Gate, Exeter a 10,000m² mixed use retail, leisure and residential project, completed in 2005. Bradwells Court, Cambridge, a 8,000m² project, working in partnership with Christ’s College, planned and managed a retail/residential mixed use development which secured planning consent in 2005. White Rose, Leeds a 65,000m² JV project for an out of town shopping centre with Evans of Leeds PLC. 100% prelet and maximised returns.       Having developed expertise in City Centre retail led projects with Land Securities, I was approached by Multiplex to create and head up a new retail development business function involving the merger of new personnel from acquired companies. As Managing Director for this retail arm of the business, highlights included: Carried out a thorough review of the existing portfolio before preparing a 5-year business plan. Integral to this was the introduction of a new management system and creation of strong relationships with Joint Venture partners. Reporting to the Australian PLC Board, I oversaw their approval for a £250m debt/equity commitment to enable the redevelopment and refurbishment of Eden in High Wycombe, a 80,000m² town centre development project which was successfully completed in 2008.Secured the necessary approvals, and preletting to initiate the redevelopment of Stamfordham Road Retail Park in Newcastle, which was successfully completed in 2008. Instigated and negotiated the profitable sale of 50% of stake in the Union Square developing in Aberdeen to Hammerson. Show less

      Having worked on a Joint Venture with Hammerson whilst at Multiplex, I was hired to join Hammerson’s Senior Management Team. I produced a 5-year business plan and proactively explored potential business opportunities, which included regeneration opportunities in major cities such as Aberdeen, Peterborough and Swansea: Managed the planning process and completion of Network Rail documentation required to facilitate the delivery of Union Square in Aberdeen City Centre – a 50,000sqm retail led project which was subsequently completed in 2009. In conjunction with Urban Splash, I led the team which won the development competition to Masterplan Swansea City Centre and Waterfront, to deliver a large retail led/residential project. Show less

      Hammerson is a FTSE 100 owner, manager and developer of retail destinations throughout Europe comprising 22 major shopping centres, 15 premium outlets and 21 retail parks. Having enjoyed previously working with Hammerson in 2007, I was invited to return on a permanent basis in 2009 as Development Director, reporting to the Board. I have worked on a range of major projects with Hammerson, playing a key role in one of the company’s largest projects in partnership with Barnet Council. Since 2012, my main role has been to direct the planning, design and delivery of Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration project – the largest mixed use regeneration project in Europe. Taking full ownership for this multi-faceted project, I devised a comprehensive strategy to enable delivery of the first phase extension to Brent Cross Shopping Centre (1m sqft) which is due to commence in 2018. (This project is a JV and represents a 300 acre mixed use site comprising 15m sqft retail, leisure, residential, offices, community facilities, new schools and a new Thameslink ‘Station’. ) Skilful direction of this £3bn regeneration project has required negotiation and influencing skills at the highest level to build robust relationships and trust with all stakeholders including the GLA, Transport for London, Network Rail, Barnet Council, Development partners, the community and Investors. In addition to the Brent Cross Cricklewood project, notable projects with Hammerson include: The initial Whitgift master plan in Croydon in 2012, the success of which led to Hammerson being selected as the development partner for this project. Support on feasibility and planning/commercial agreements in respect of major town and City centre schemes which include Leeds Victoria Gate and Southampton Watermark, both of which have been successfully completed.       I was employed as a Development Advisor to Capital & Regional with a specific focus on development master planning for existing shopping centres in Walthamstow ,Ilford and Woodgreen. In the case of The Mall in Walthamstow I led a multi disciplinary consultant team on the design ,preparation of planning applications and commercial negotiations for both a residential led mixed use extension to the Mall and a new tube station entrance and ticket hall in partnership with Waltham Forest Borough Council and TFL.       Working as a development management advisor to Brighton & Hove City Council in respect of the Brighton Waterfront regeneration project .This is a significant and highly prominent site within the core city centre which includes the Churchill Square shopping centre owned by ASI and the Brighton Centre.The Council and ASI are working in partnership to determine the long term potential for the site as a new mixed use Quarter in the City.
