      My duties included the organisation and efficient running of the JARIC Computer Room, which comprised dual and single ICL 3955 Series mainframes, a Solaris-based UNIX system, a Digital MicroVAX system and Windows NT based network servers. I had line management of three Administrative Officer computer operators. I was the System Security Officer for the main computer system within JARIC, with responsibility for the control of approximately 300 user accounts and 180 pieces of computer hardware. I provided additional support to the UNIX Support Flight & Network Management Flight when required. I was accountable for, and had control of, approximately 3500 items of magnetic media. Show less

      My duties include the day to day management of a proactive and busy IT Help Desk that provides 1st, 2nd and some 3rd line support to the Council’s computer systems, software and users. I provide line management to four Help Desk Analysts, one Support Officer, and additional contractors/summer students as required. I am responsible for assigning incidents to individual analysts, ensuring they are resolved quickly and efficiently. I act as the Help Desk representative on project boards for new systems and software. I have responsibility for the authorisation of replacement hardware and software. I ensure that annual equipment checks are carried out and the corporate IT inventory database is maintained, as well as ensuring that written operational procedures are current and new ones produced. I am responsible for the management and disposal of old equipment, and allocation of new equipment. I confirm, and authorise orders up to the value of £5000 for the Information Management Division. I produce weekly management reports for other team leaders and senior management.       As the Technology Support Manager, I am responsible for the day to day operation, along with out of hours/holiday emergency support, of all the IT equipment and software used by the employees of WSP and its associates.
