      AFS is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the exchange of students 15-17 years old worldwide providing learning and cultural experiences that help to understand different cultures making the world a more peaceful place to live in. My responsibilities as a volunteer in different positions at the Madrid chapter included representing the AFS Madrid chapter at the Madrid Youth Council, acting as a spokesperson for the Chapter of Madrid and representing the organization in regional official institutions. In a more organizational level, my positions included the coordination of volunteers and orientations, the creation of documents and brochures, the management of confidential information, coordinating and conducting informative sessions for prospective students and families.       Trained in CPR, first aid, emergency assistance and case management in the North Carolina Triangle Chapter.The American Red Cross Disaster Action Team in the Triangle area is dedicated to assist families that have lost their residence as a result of flooding, fire, hurricane and other disasters. The Disaster Action Team is trained to quickly respond at any time, day or night and relocate the affected family in a temporary new residence while supporting the members of the family with whatever immediate necessities they might have.       Generation Engage is a nonpartisan youth-civic-engagement initiative that connects young Americans to political leaders, to other civic organizations, and to meaningful debate about the future they will inherit. My participation in the NC Ballot initiative included the creation of relevant questions as well as interviewing candidates for the NC Supreme Court and the NC Court of Appeals. The purpose of this project was to educate and inform young voters about political and judicial positions and the candidates’ agendas for those positions in the state of North Carolina. Show less

      Assisted refugees in the process of resettlement in the Raleigh/ Durham/Chapel Hill area of North Carolina. The US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants is a network organization that assists individuals and families that fled their countries as a result of war or persecution. The USCRI helps throughout the resettling process in the US and provides services that make the transition easier. Its ultimate goal is to support refugees in the adaptation to the local community focusing on protecting their rights as immigrants. As a volunteer at the Raleigh office, my tasks included assisting case managers in resettling and relocating refugees from countries like Myanmar/Burma and Cuba. Show less

      Worked on a self created project approved by the American Red Cross focused on establishing valuable relationships with nonprofits and official institutions of international character present in North Carolina’s Triangle Area. The main purpose of my project was to outreach to organizations and agencies dealing with immigrants and refugees residing in the Raleigh, NC. I created a network of referrals and educational services utilizing the infrastructure of the Red Cross Chapter in the area. As a result of my work at the Red Cross, the Triangle area Chapter was one of the first ones in the country to sign an agreement with the Mexican Consulate. The purpose of this agreement was to provide better services to Mexican nationals present in the Triangle area of North Carolina in case of emergency.I also participated in the public awareness campaign to explain how to use the website "Safe & Well" or "Sano Y Salvo" for those Hispanics who wanted to provide vital information to their families back home in case of a disaster.I also worked as a caseworker restoring family links. This service provided by the international services of the Red Cross allows families separated by violent conflicts or natural disasters to find a missing person when contact has been lost.
