      Bookkeeper

I found my way into the field of accounting via the job board in our career center in high school. As the Assistant Bookkeeper of a chimney cleaning company, I calculated paychecks by hand, typed 941 and W-2 returns, and kept a check register in a very early version of excel. Between my junior year in high school and Fall 1995, I performed the role of bookkeeper at various small businesses in the greater Seattle area - a hardware store, plumbing company, restaurant, travel agency and for 2 years, a computer hardware distributor. These experiences gave me a great foundation for understanding and appreciating how old-school businesses operate at the most basic level. Show less

      Oct 1995 - Apr 1998
      Accountant

While attending Belmont University full time, I worked part time as an accountant for a local CPA. We provided tax and bookkeeping services to small business clients in Quickbooks, Peachtree, and various industry-specific software solutions. I worked directly with clients to gain an understanding of business practices and issues, and recorded transactions, produced financial statements, and filed monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns. We also had a significant personal and state tax return practice from January through April, so by the time I graduated in 1998 I was adept at completing most forms of corporate and personal tax returns for small businesses and individuals.
