Many Veterans that we serve had delayed their healthcare either through their own choice or those that were made for them by the VA having to curtail services. Rachel was tasked with analyzing the large data sets and making sense of what percent of care was delayed and what was moved over to other modalities such as telehealth. Rachel developed a robust dashboard that proved incredibly useful to Service line leadership as they prepared the moving forward plans. In addition, the design of the dashboard allowed other levels of leadership to understand the weekly appointment trends and other relevant KPIs. This dashboard was shared across the country to hospital CEOs, regional directors, and others as a best practice in a meeting called by the VA’s Assistant Under Secretary for Health Operations. These interventions allowed for Veterans here in the Los Angeles area and across the country get more timely access to high quality clinical care.Rachel’s most lasting contribution is what she is doing to develop her team. As a new manager, she underwent training from the VA’s Leadership Development Institute (LDI). Due to the pandemic, she had to meet her team virtually. She has overseen the doubling of her team size and encouraged her direct reports to further their personal development. In 2021, she was able to have one her staff successfully complete LDI and another individual is enrolled in the class of 2022. To accommodate the challenges with a virtual team, she has created virtual socialization through a Microsoft Teams channel. She is a respected leader even with those that do not have the formal reporting structure to her. She continues to be requested to be part of workgroups and committees and is regularly called on by the executive team for assistance.Sincerely,Amit J. Kothari, MD, MBADeputy Chief of Staff Show less
