  Tharisa minerals (a mining company) is a co-producer of Platinum group metals (PGM's) and Chrome (metallurgical, chemical and foundry grades). Based in Marikana, North West, mainly explores the MG reefs of the Bushveld complex.My main responsibilities were:1. Performing routine Batch and Hot flotation lab-scale tests on various plant streams.2. Screening (to evaluate PSDs) of the crucial plant streams in order to determine the size fractions containing the highest amount of PGMs (to inform the milling operational variables)3. Assigned with the Ball milling optimization project (evaluating a possible substitute of the grinding media with a Lower consumption rate to reduce the ball loading rate and consequently reduce the milling costs)4. Shear reactor flotation project (performed test work primarily aimed at increasing the recovery of fine particles containing a significant amount of PGMs. This involved a high intensity pre-conditioning stage which influences the amenability of the conventional flotation process in recovering finer particle sizes.
