      Supervisor

Supervised Part 1A Natural Sciences students at the University of Cambridge. This involved planning and teaching supervision sessions for small groups of students, and marking assignments. My tutorials covered the themes of rock identification, geological map reading skills and scientific writing.

      Geologist

I was a geologist in the Arctic team at CASP for over 5 years. The role involved:- Working in a small team to organise and participate in field seasons in the Canadian Arctic (Four 5-8 week expeditions)- Integrating analytical data (source rock geochemistry, geochronology, petrology) with field data and published information (including regional geophysical surveys, geological maps and cross-sections) to produce focussed reviews and syntheses for the hydrocarbon industry- Collecting field observations to constrain the structure, sedimentology, stratigraphy and tectonic evolution of prospective frontier hydrocarbon basins and adjacent areas- Regular presentation of my work to oil company geologists and academics in small business meetings and at international conferencesArctic Field Seasons2011 (August) Vendom Fiord, Ellesmere Island. Took part in CASE 12, organised by BGR. Studied syn-tectonic Paleogene strata related to the Eurekan Orogeny.2010 (June-July) Raanes Peninsula, Ellesmere Island. Co-organiser. Studied Ellesmerian structures and the Paleozoic Franklinian succession.2009 (June-July) Lake Hazen. Studies Ellesmerian and Eurekan structures and Cambrian strata of the Franklinian succession.2008 (June-July) Slidre Fiord, Ellesmere Island. Studied the Sverdrup Basin succession and igneous rocks attributed to the High Arctic Large Igneous Province. Show less

    • ARKeX

      May 2013 - Nov 2015

My primary role was to undertake multi-client interpretation projects, using a combination of conventional gravity and magnetic data, gravity gradiometry data, seismic data and geological and geophysical information in the public domain.I was also tasked with assisting in the identification of new study areas for interpretation projects and Full Tensor Gradiometry surveys (FTG), and the technical development of the companies strategy for multi-client studies.Other tasks included:- technical geoscience support for sales and management- preparation of technical reports for industry- structural geology and potential fields consultancy- presentation of technical papers at industry and academic conferences Show less I worked in the New Ventures Group. My role was to interpret potential field data and integrate them with other geophysical and geological datasets to provide geological models for multi-client surveys. During this time I produced a new Tectonic Atlas of the West of Shetlands region, which re-evaluated the tectonic framework of the region drawing several new conclusions about the configuration of the lithosphere and tectonic evolution of the region. Elements of this work have since been published in a peer-reviewed Special Publication of the Geological Society of London. Show less

      Nov 2015 - now
      Director and Geoscience Consultant (Active)

Using my broad geoscience experience and specialist skills in structural geology, tectonics, seismic and potential field interpretations, and many years of fieldwork experience in remote areas, my aim is to help explorationists to evaluate their data and ideas, and to generate new interpretations that satisfy all the data available. My approach is to use multiple data types together; this allows the strengths of each type to be exploited to reduce uncertainty and to gain greater insight into subsurface structure. No two areas and no two projects are the same. My consultancy services are targeted at overcoming specific challenges, with bespoke deliverables designed to give the client exactly what they need.
