    • Equality Now

      Feb 2022 - now
      Program Officer- Legal Equality

As a program manager, I lead the implementation of two significant projects aimed at advancing the All for the Maputo Protocol campaign. Firstly, I am responsible for providing thought leadership and stewarding the implementation of a regional program aimed at advancing gender equality and women's empowerment in Africa. The program seeks to strengthen the capacities of 4 regional economic communities, namely ECCAS, ECOWAS, SADC, and IGAD, to encourage their Member States to ratify, domesticate, implement, and report on the Maputo Protocol, CEDAW, and the ILO Convention No. 100 on Equal Remuneration. Secondly, I oversee the implementation of the Spotlight Initiative Africa Regional Program, which aims to end violence against women and girls in Africa. Under this program, we support civil society organizations in developing shadow/alternative reports on the implementation of the Maputo Protocol by AU member states. Additionally, we have conducted a continental study to map and assess the status of ratification, domestication, and implementation of international and regional women's rights instruments on ending violence against women and girls. The study also highlights member states' measures in the form of developing national action plans on EVAWG. Through this project, we have strengthened the capacities of CSOs to engage in advocacy at the AU and UN levels, including leveraging the ACHPR's Ordinary Sessions as spaces for strategic advocacy.
