Aug 2013 - Aug 2013Marketing Asisstant Welcome to YorkshireDuring my placement I worked alongside the Welcome to Yorkshire team in carrying out research and providing support for different copy writing aspects. As part of the editorial, I assisted with some of the feature ideas for the winter guide 2013; I researched events, festivals, attractions and local businesses in different parts of Yorkshire to feature in the Christmas addition. Together with the Marketing Manager at WTY, I also attended an initial meeting with the Yorkshire Post and learnt more about how the company worked alongside the newspaper. This was a great way for me to meet another journalist working in the field that I want to go in to and take note of how they work with us (WTY). In regards to the Yorkshire post meeting, I helped with the research and compiled an excel document of potential business contacts in the regional area which could be mentioned in the Yorkshire Post supplement for WTY. Keeping in mind that WTY has paying members only, I had to first look through their official CRM system to find members who could be mentioned and then I carried out further research in finding other regional non-members which could be contacted. Whilst on placement I advanced my research skills, which taught me a lot about researching and finding the correct and accurate information. As a writer it was challenging for me to come up with a range of copies which had to be different and original from the rest when assisting with the copy writing for the winter guide. Overall, my experience at Welcome to Yorkshire has been progressive and I have gained many skills whilst on placement which can be applied in different editorial and media field. Show less
