  Peer Mentor

  As a mentor in the "First Year Interest Group" program, I led a class of 22 freshmen. Working closely with my supervisor Arletta Tompkins, I prepared and gave weekly lectures teaching my students about college life. Furthermore, I managed a monthly budget and organized social activities for students to attend. One of my main responsibilities was also to have regular one-on-one mentoring sessions with my students to ensure that they could thrive in both their academics and career paths.   Research Assistant

  I joined the "Tiger Lab Research Group" as a research assistant (see http://tigerlab.engr.utexas.edu/index.html). During research, I adapted to a variety a lab setups and acquired data from two-dimensional materials, studying their mechanical properties for potential usage in nano-electronics. Since I attended weekly group meetings and assisted my instructor in preparing formal progress reports for Dr. Tao (the principle investigator), my technical writing/interpretation skills were greatly enhanced.   I created the website "https://www.tjlaredo.com/", and updated it frequently to match our inventory. I worked with Mr. Rodriquez to organize our inventory and to confirm item shipments. I also cooperated with coworkers in costumer service, which mainly involved price-checking and recording customer needs.

  Mechanical Design Engineer

  In Yes Robot, my job was about communicating with both clients and my supervisor, understanding their needs, then achieving desired robot arm operations. Primarily, my responsibility was to design welding tables with SolidWorks for specific operations, and to code robots in a way that resulted in minimized welding steps and maximized efficiency. Additionally, I was required to drive to some of our clients' factories and repair robots with malfunctions.

  Mold Design Apprentice

  My job was to make a mold for pen clip production. I participated in the design process while quickly learning the skills required for mold creation. Once I acquired a blueprint for the mold, I began to work on the production floor, running various machines following SOP and Safety guidelines. I filled the main role in physically creating the mold and ultimately had my mold tested for future production.One of my biggest accomplishments during my apprenticeship was improving pen clip production: Every once in a while, the CNC cutting machines could not operate due to open sketches imported from CAD. I noticed that fixing open sketches was very difficult since the company's version of CAD did not have the functionality to report this type of issue. I suggested a software update and as a result all blueprints no longer required fixes during production, which translated into a significant increase in efficiency. Show less
