Board member (responsible for the PR and financial department) of the Eco-Runner student team participating in the Shell Eco-marathon where consumption and durability are central. These races hosted different race car categories with different sorts of fuels ranging from hydrogen to bio fuels. The project was subject to international media attention with as a highlight the victory of the Eco-Runner H2 vehicle with the lowest consumption of 2282 km/l.

      Internship

The internship took place at the R&D department of the section of aerodynamics. The goal of the internship was to investigate the possibility to change the current CFD procedure using a more efficient approach for the estimation of loads on the sports car. Eventually the project gave rise to a design tool that is still currently being used for their analyses resulting in the best evaluation given to a TU Delft internshipstudent so far.

My assignment at the Customer Service Department consisted in being responsible for the service to our Methanol clients. I was accountable for the processing of the orders (ship/barge/truck/train/pipeline),communication with the client, complaint handling and invoicing. The main project I worked on in the field of operations focused on improving the truck Turn Around Time (TAT) of our loading and discharging trucks. The program I wrote, tracking KPIs related to the TAT, is currently being used at the facility and often discussed during the Management Meetings.

I have travelled abroad (USA, Germany and China) to perform self-assessment and post implementation reviews on site (terminals). Next to this, I was responsible for the 2011 CRSA (Control Risk Self-Assessment) roll out in which I had to interact with various departments on corporate and terminal level. The committee, composed of six members, is responsible to organize events revolving around networking and knowledge sharing internally and externally for employees under the age of 35.

Weekly Lower Olefins economic steer. During this call we set the steer for crackers of the coming week. The E&S departments, Manufacturing and Supply Managers are present for both sites during the call. The intent of the call is to find opportunities on a weekly basis to assess our performance against plan (volume based) and maximize value where we can by setting and agreeing on the best steer. In this call we discuss the performance of intermediate units as well giving us a platform to assess the impact of the steer on the intermediate units and vice versa. Simulation tools (Discrete Event Simulation) for supply chain optimization. Together with a Projects &Technology consultant and an external consultant I am working on setting up an integrated supply chain (Ethylene and Propylene) in order to simulate the robustness of the current supply chain set up. This model can answer questions such as, what the impact would be of a customer location change, increasing parcel size loading or unloadings, tank capacity increase or decrease, cooling or heating capacity amendments, increasing the unit reliabilities etc. For the commercial strategy team I ran a sensitivity analysis for future C2= scenarios assessing the robustness of the current set up of our supply chain. I localized the bottlenecks in our system and discussed what the financial impact would be when relieving that constraint. I discussed the results with the project stakeholders to assess the implications and feasibility of my resulting steer.E2E cross productline (CC4/MEK) optimizations using an LP tool (GMOS Netsim). On a monthly basis I look at possibilities to optimize the supply/demand position of the multiple productlines (CC4, BD, Raff-1, Raff-2, MTBE, Methanol and MEK). After running and discussing the LP I provide the steer for the different units showing which route the molecules should take in order to maximize value E2E. On average the optimisation does lead to 0.5 to 1 mln EUR a month. Show less

      Young Shell Board Member

In my task as YS Rotterdam chair, I organise events where fun and education are key parameters of the events. Examples of this are: Lunch and Learns (STEVE, aviation fuels), golf courses with VP, Wine tasting and the YS Rotterdam Conference (External influence on Shell Downstream).YSR Conference. I decided to host the first YS Rotterdam Conference on “Reflection of the external world on Shell Downstream”. 2 EVPs (Trading & Supply + Chemicals) and 1 VP (Investor Relations) were our guest speakers + a trading game from Oxford Princeton. 60 people from different COBs joined the Conference. I provided a platform for young employees to share their views and opinions amongst peers and senior management.Rot.Jong Symposium. As a board member of the Rot.Jong Symposium, we organised an event for Rotterdam start ups (10 startups) and young professionals from large companies with offices in Rotterdam (Houtthoff Buruma, Nautha Dutilh, ABN Amro, etc). The goal of the day was to provide a feedback platform for the start-ups. We organized an event with 100 participants and a budget of 10K that provided a platform for 10 entrepreneurs that would be given a chance to bounce off ideas to young professionals. Show less
