Within the Social Justice and Human Rights Master's Program, the Latino Educational Outcomes in Yavapai County Campaign works to build power in the local undocumented and Xicano communities around educational attainment and political empowerment; it is currently focused on access to higher education. Coordinate and collaborate with undergraduate and masters students through their Community Organizing courses to develop strategy, hold community meetings, consolidate resources, and network with community members. This includes facilitating a two-day Strategic Planning (SWOT) session. Show less This fulfilled the requirement for Practicum placement in which I helped coordinate a three-week, intensive, undergraduate field course by supporting the instructors of “Climate Change and Dystopia in the Borderlands.” My responsibilities included: planning and compiling the course reader, coordinating gear and safety logistics, setting up speakers and visits, co-facilitating discussions, managing finances and payment, and helping make sure the course ran smoothly. I demonstrated adaptibility through dynamic facilitation of class activities around Borderlands/ La Frontera by Gloria Anzaldúa, white supremacy, identity, racialization, and geography in the southwest. We explored physical, social, political, economic, emotional, and spiritual landscapes as we visited people held at the Eloy Detention Center, Operation Streamline, activists on the Tohono O’ohdam nation, and numberous migrant justice and environmental organizations along the border. Additionally, students wrote extensive blog posts and reflections. Show less
