    • Hogan Lovells

      Jan 1982 - Jan 1994
      Legal Assistant/Litigation Support Team Leader

Started on a two week temporary contract in the firm's Commercial Litigation Department and ended running the firm's litigation support function from within their IT department, having moved to IT in 1989 to help them better serve their fee-earning community. A typical IT project was implementing and managing the firm's library system, Sirsi, working closely with the PSLs and library staff.

    • Simmons & Simmons

      Jan 1994 - Jan 1999
      Litigation Support Manager

The firm's first Litigation Support Manager, based as a fee-earner in the Litigation Department. Ran a steady team of around 10 paralegals servicing all procedural and technical requirements of a variety of departments, bolstered as needed by a team of up to 100 temporary paralegals conducting matter-specific document reviews and ad hoc support generally.

    • Litigation Support Company

      Feb 1999 - Oct 2000
      Managing Director

My own litigation support consultancy established with two Simmons & Simmons colleagues on the back of the Woolf Reforms to civil procedure in England and Wales. The expectation was those reforms would impose a higher and more sophisticated degree of project management on litigious matters, with a concomitant increase in the deployment of technical solutions.

    • Simmons & Simmons

      Jan 2000 - Jan 2005
Editor, elexica and Litigation Support Consultant

Responsible for all content on and structure of the firm's multi-award-winning know-how web site, www.elexica.com. Confirmed at the time by the firm's managing partner as the best marketing investment the firm had ever made, the site went from a rather informal site used by around 5,000 visitors to a registration-based vehicle accessed by 25,000+ and a winner of more than 100 legal and internet awards. Its like has never been repeated.

    • The Litigation Support Technology Group (LiST)

      Jan 2003 - Jan 2010
      Founding member

LiST was a unique London-based think tank with international reach. It was first formed in 2003 by a group of litigation support specialists with the aim of encouraging and developing a uniformity of approach to the use of technology in litigation and in other forms of dispute resolution. From 2010 LiST went into slow decline as its exclusively volunteer membership found less time to devote to the Group’s ground-breaking activities.

    • DLA Piper

      Jan 2006 - Feb 2010
      Head of Litigation Technology

Responsible for driving eDiscovery applications and procedures forward and selecting and implementing appropriate user-facing technology to help the lawyers work smarter. Along the way I was responsible for the then largest UK-based Relativity database of some 50+ million items.

    • EY

      Mar 2010 - Apr 2014
      Assistant Director

On 29 March 2010 I joined EY's Forensic Technology & Discovery Services team, part of their wider Fraud Investigations and Dispute Services team in London. My role is to continue to lead from the front in the fast-developing international area of eDisclosure/eDiscovery thinking and practice, to help to promote EY's services globally and, of course, to attract new business. I am mainly involved in large and international discovery matters and I am often brought in to turn around more challenging matters. Working with the UK Government is turning into a particular speciality. I also have responsibility for direct liaison with EY's technology team to deliver and maintain the infrastructure and processes required to support EY's global eDiscovery service.A large part of my time is spent supporting and developing the team around me, informally and formally mentoring them on any career or personal matters they care to share with me. Even though I no longer work at EY I continue to mentor a number of ex-colleagues as they face new challenges in their lives. This is a very important part of my professional life and one that I personally cherish.Copy and paste this URL to read the thoughts of the eDisclosure Information Project's Chris Dale on my joining EY:http://chrisdale.wordpress.com/2010/04/07/jonathanWhilst at EY I created my daily BONG! email update, first as a purely internal service; it became so popular I included the external eDiscovery - and wider - community. • Litigation Support Group

      Jan 2014 - Dec 2015
      Steering group member

LiST - www.listgroup.org - is a unique London-based think tank with international reach. It was first formed in 2003 by a group of litigation support specialists with the aim of encouraging and developing a uniformity of approach to the use of technology in litigation and in other forms of dispute resolution. From 2010 LiST went into slow decline as its exclusively volunteer membership found less time to devote to the Group’s ground-breaking activities.Briefly in 2014/2015 the Group was revived by a small number of original members and some much-needed new blood. Hopefully LiST’s goals and mantle will be taken on by the recent launch of ACEDS’ London chapter.Contact list@listgroup.org for more details or membership enquiries. Show less
