  I wrote about a wide range of business topics, from entrepreneurship to banking. While Forbes didn’t encourage traditional beats at the time, I developed expertise in personal finance, markets and exchanges, trading, and derivatives. I interviewed billionaires, valued their assets for the Forbes 400 and other wealth lists, and enjoyed finding news in arcane areas of business. My cover story about CME Group became a book on the history of global futures markets, The Futures: The Rise of the Speculator and the Origins of the World’s Biggest Markets, published in 2010 by Basic Books.   My bylined articles have appeared in publications including The New York Times, Bloomberg, and Crain's Chicago Business. I also help experts in business and other areas share their knowledge through books, articles, and white papers. The work has included structural and line editing, interviewing and writing, and reporting. Beyond that, I give presentations about research and business journalism to students, fellows, and business organizations.

  Editor of Chicago Booth Review

  Founding editor of an award-winning publication from a top-rated business school. Topics covered include monetary policy, market design, inequality, health care, climate change, AI, and much more.When I joined Booth, the school promoted its research through a small, irregularly-published print newsletter. Now it has a professional, well-crafted, compelling magazine that is published on a regular schedule both in print and online. To make that happen, I developed close relationships with faculty across the school to better understand business research and the pitfalls of covering it, as well as the storytelling opportunities. I recruited a team of talented writers, editors, graphic designers, and other content professionals to translate research findings into Plain English, with the goal of reaching policymakers, business leaders, leading journalists, and an informed lay audience. CBR includes a variety of articles, as well as infographics, videos, and podcasts. I edit and at times ghostwrite essays for academic faculty, including Nobel winners. Our high-quality journalism has been recognized by the Society of Business Editors and Writers, among other groups, and CBR has served as a model for other institutions. I received Booth’s staff impact award early on in this process and feel most rewarded by working with smart people to create substantial journalism. Show less
