  Outrider was a privately-held junior oil and gas exploration and development company that I founded in 2003. With a staff of ten experienced industry professionals, we built a balanced portfolio of conventional producing assets and long-term unconventional resource plays in Alberta and Saskatchewan. In 2009, Outrider merged with another private junior company and sold the combined entity to a senior oil and gas company.

  Reporting to the Dean of Science, my responsibilities in this role focused on working with undergraduate and graduate students in the Faculty of Science to prepare them for transitions into professional careers following graduation. I championed development of professional identity through critical reflection and awareness of leader character traits as the main thrust of my work. This was accomplished through group presentations, individual counselling and mentorship, program development and advocacy for the participation of Science students in experiential learning and entrepreneurship activities across the Western campus and in the broader community. During the latter stages of my work, prior to retirement, I worked with the Dean of Science to create a professional development program for emerging faculty and staff leaders. Show less
