      2019 Hormel Case Competition Winner Hormel/UW-Eau Claire Advanced Marketing Analytics Dec 2019 During the first semester of my Senior year, I took part in a marketing analytics case competition as a part of my Advanced Marketing Analytics class. For the marketing case, we worked closely with Hormel foods, breaking down a large set of data from the year 2017 for Giant Eagle foods. The case prompt asked us to make recommendations on behalf of Giant Eagle for their bacon selection. Over the 2 months we worked on the project, looking over hundreds of numbers, our team decided to take a… Show more During the first semester of my Senior year, I took part in a marketing analytics case competition as a part of my Advanced Marketing Analytics class. For the marketing case, we worked closely with Hormel foods, breaking down a large set of data from the year 2017 for Giant Eagle foods. The case prompt asked us to make recommendations on behalf of Giant Eagle for their bacon selection. Over the 2 months we worked on the project, looking over hundreds of numbers, our team decided to take a unique approach to measure sales to get the most accurate base of bacon trends. Instead of using dollar sales (which included promotion) we used volume sales. This is because dollar sales can be skewed by promotion and discount, while volume sales look at the product from an “objective” light. Because of our unique approach to the prompt and willingness to take a different look than was suggested, our team took first place in the competition. Show less
