  During the October holidays I applied and worked for Camp Beaumont, assisting in the care of children who’s parents where at work during the holidays. While running activities with the children, I also worked closely with the camp leaders to ensure that all of the activates where ready and completed on time.   Internship

  During the October half term, I arranged and organised a work experience opportunity at FM Conway, a large civil engineering company based in Kent. I principally shadowed the Director of Surfacing as well as gaining experience within other key departments. This allowed me to experience a broad range of cooperate activates including a commercial sales pitch, the full preparation needed for a detailed tender process as well as day to day sales and running of the office including Finance, Human Resources.   Labourer

  During the lockdown and summer of 2020 I actively looked for work in order to keep me busy while home from University. I was employed by North Church Homes who are a high end builder and developer in Kent and surrounding areas. I was employed as a general labourer undertaking a range of site roles by assisting carpenters, roofers, bricklayers, plumbers and basement specialists in their work on site. Skills Gained Included- - Teamwork in order to coordinate with each specialist in their work - Communication as I had to converse with a wide range of people from different backgrounds and abilities- Self motivation where I was left to undertake tasks with no instruction and where I was learning new skills quickly in order that I did not impede the progress of the site Show less

  General Assistant

  In parallel with my employment with North Church Homes I worked for a Property Development and Investment business in maintaining and preparing new build properties prior to their sale. The business developed houses around the South East of England and East Anglia which therefore required me to travel and stay away from home. Whilst my role principally required me to maintain and prepare houses for the market I also took on responsibilities for coordinating other tradesmen and meeting agents and prospective purchasers alike. Skills Gained Include- - Self motivation: I was often working alone and away from home and was entirely responsible for ensuring the necessary tasks were completed efficiently and satisfactorily- Communication: I was responsible for arranging third party contractors to attend site and undertake a range of roles. Further, I met both agents and purchasers and assisted in demonstrating the benefits and features of each individual property Show less

  Construction Intern

  Over the summer of 2021 I worked for Overbury PLC on an eight week paid Internship within their Major Project Division in London. I experienced a wide variety of tasks and assignments which gave me a deeper understanding of the processes taken from which to complete a major project. For the majority of my time, I worked alongside the Senior Construction Manager and Project Manager who are primarily responsible for the entire project including the management of the independent trades, scheduling and timetabling of works and day to day running of the project. In particular, I assisted in completing the mock-up area for the client team to walk around which gave me practical experience in the management of the different trades, the optimal timescale and timetabling for each task to be completed as efficiently as possible. This translated into the wider project as the time sensitivity on the AV, MER and SCR rooms exacerbated the need to have multiple trades working in a small environment at any one time. It is clear to me that the coordination skill required to manage multiple teams of separate subcontractors is a cornerstone of project management and I believe that the team with whom I was seconded were particularly successful. I understand that a key element of any business is its reputation and certainly no less in construction management. I was very aware that the quality control applied by the management team was of a high level and witnessed on multiple occasions interventions to ensure high standards of fit and finish were maintained.
