  Responsible for providing coordination, developmental support, and instructional support in the operation of the Criminal Justice Training Center and the Basic Peace Officer Academies. Duties include:• Responsible for coordination of six, nineteen week, police academies a year.• Responsible for increasing the overall student enrollment in each program every academic and contact hour year. • Responsible for continually increasing the overall pass rate on certification exams.• Responsible for recruiting and sustaining students in each individual program.• Responsible for recruiting and maintaining a staff of knowledgeable and personable instructors. • Manage personnel (including evaluations, discipline, schedules, payroll, etc...) to maintain the integrity of the program and the reputation of the college. • Responsible for securing all equipment and supplies for all programs.• Participate in an Advisory Board that includes local police chiefs and other community leaders. • Develop and coordinate new innovative training.• Communicate with the local police chiefs regarding the Tarrant County College Basic Peace Officer Academy. • Assist in preparation and evaluation of the curriculum to meet the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.   The W.W. Caruth, Jr. Police Institute is a unique partnership between the Dallas Police Department and the University of North Texas at Dallas, with support from the University of Texas at Dallas. CPI is funded by a generous grant and endowment from the Communities Foundation of Texas.Our primary mission is to fulfill the complex research, educational and leadership development needs of the Dallas Police Department, thereby enhancing public safety and better serving the community of Dallas and all of North Texas. To fulfill our mission, we provide in-depth training to the future leaders of the Dallas Police Department. Lieutenants attend an intensive five-week course that covers everything from ethics to social media; sergeants can attend our four-week course that tackles transitioning roles and personal leadership development. CPI’s classes are innovative and interactive, combining the academic with the practical. We bring in nationally-recognized leaders in law enforcement, professors from a variety of scholastic backgrounds, and subject matter experts from the private industry, too. Our graduates are eligible for college credit, and many of them choose to continue their degrees beyond their time with CPI.The Caruth Police Institute assists the Dallas Police Department with their strategic planning process, and provides ongoing research into best policing practices to help evaluate department programs. CPI also provides leadership enrichment programming in the form of workshops, discussion groups and special topics series. All services provided to DPD are provided through grant/endowment funding.Caruth Police Institute also serves as a resource for other North Texas police agencies, offering consulting on strategic planning and tailoring educational programs for leadership personnel.
