    • Materion Corporation

      Jun 1997 - now

I have conducted market research to identify new markets and applications for Materion's high performance copper alloys. I have worked closely with new and existing customers to help them optimize their designs for reliability while minimizing the cost to do so. I have frequently traveled to customers around the world to lead design seminars and to provide on-site technical support for working with our materials, such as design assistance, fabrication assistance, and proper environmental, health and safety considerations.I have been a regular attendee and frequent presenter a workshops and trade showsI have authored numerous technical articles, data sheets, brochures, case studies and application reports, including over 70 semi-monthly editions of a materials-related newsletter called Technical Tidbits. Show less I progressed from summer intern to Senior Engineer in the Customer Technical Service Department at Materion Brush Performance Alloys. I achieved Lean Six Sigma greenbelt certification in 2006.While in this department, I responded to technical inquiries from customers on Materion’s high performance alloys including copper beryllium, ToughMet copper nickel tin, and nickel beryllium. I provided technical support for all customers world-wide, for every material and product form. I provided application engineering support for every alloy market and application. This included Burn in and Test Socket (BiTS) contacts, smart phone battery contacts, plastic mold tooling, oil & gas drilling components, bushings and bearings for aircraft and heavy equipment, automotive electrical connectors, switch and relay contacts, and many more.I assisted customers with selecting the proper material for their application. I aided the customer's design process by validating designs with finite element analysis (over 800 FEA’s performed to date), by providing material properties, or presenting data on how our materials have fared in similar applications.I performed failure analysis on customer applications by gathering application and service data from the customer, coordinating required laboratory testing, diagnosing the failure mode, and authoring reports documenting the findings and recommending corrective actions.I provided customers with processing and fabrication assistance, including how to stamp, machine, heat treat, weld, clean, etc. all alloy products. I traveled to customers to provide technical seminars on designing with our materials or to diagnose problems they are having with processing these alloys.I communicated all necessary environmental, health, and safety information to customers to ensure that they are safely processing our materials and complying with regulations.
