    • Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising

      Jan 1977 - Jan 1981
      Copywriter

Cut my teeth on automotive, with brand advertising, dealer advertising and collateral for Jeep. Learned the P&G way on Pert Shampoo. When I started it was Compton Advertising and they owned a little boutique shop in London called Saatchi & Saatchi. When I left, well, you know the story....

    • Dentsu

      Jan 1981 - Jan 1990
      Creative Supervisor/Copywriter

I worked at Dentsu in Tokyo from 81-87 and then came back to the US to work at the NYC office for another 3 years. It was a life-changing experience I will always be grateful for. During my time in Tokyo, I was the lead writer on accounts that included Mazda, Toyota, Toshiba and Clarion to name a few. When I returned to NYC, I introduced the first digital camera to the US, the Canon Xapshot. And I wrote award-winning TV spots for Canon camcorders. During my time with Dentsu, I worked closely with Japanese nationals in both English and Japanese, and developed advertising not only for the U.S., but also for English language markets around the world, as well as writing for translation into French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic. While in Japan I studied and received a license to teach ikebana, the art of flower arranging, from the Sogetsu school. And I developed a passion for contemporary Japanese culture both high and low that has never abated. My Japanese language skills are — rusty. Zannen dakedo, daibu wasurechatta. Show less

    • Crossover Technologies

      Jan 1990 - Jan 1993
      Freelance Writer

In the early days of online media, Crossover Technologies created content, including games for services like Prodigy (remember them?). One project I worked on was a year-long online collaborative game called The Next President. This was a simulated election game that ran concurrent / parallel to the election of 1992, with fictional candidates across the political spectrum. I had the amazingly fun job of writing responses to manufactured news events for all the candidates. It was my first experience with IA and UX. The multi-dimensional multi-track thinking was an addictive challenge. I was hooked. Show less

RETIRED!! I got to help people make better health decisions by crafting highly personalized data-driven communications across all media channels. The works encouraged them to do things like take their meds, get their regular check-ups, exercise more—you know, all the things we're supposed to do, like eat our vegetables, but we somehow don't. Except with the strategic thinking of behavioral economics behind the work, people start to change. Better for Aetna, and better for them. And a great job for me. Win-win-win. Show less
