  I worked on Saturdays during the school term and up to five days a week during the school holidays. I held the job for the duration of my school years. By the time I left for University, I was responsible for the front desk of the salon which meant I managed our customers, the telephone and our booking system. Starting work young has ingrained in me the value of accountability and mutual resilience and trust in teamwork.

  During my first year of sixth form, I sought out work experience at a local full-service firm. I spent time within residential property, dispute resolution and private client, specifically looking at wills. My time here confirmed for me that I wanted to practice law. I found myself thriving while performing a range of different tasks and enjoyed the process of using my intellectual ability to deliver results.

  During my university holidays, I have worked behind the counter at a busy cafe where we receive footfall of in excess of one thousand people per day at the height of summer. I worked up to 40 hours per week. I was often responsible for all of the front of house duties on my own. I have learned to multitask. I have also learned to anticipate customers’ needs, use my communication skills and conduct myself in a friendly and professional way.

  While at University, I worked at least twice a month as agency staff in the hospitality industry. I served customers at events ranging from VIP dinners to a kiosk at Longleat Safari park. The bespoke events required me to pay close attention to detail during service and interact with clients appropriately. The industry is demanding, requiring me to that I commit to long hours and late nights.

  I joined the employment team for a 6-week placement, working on two large equal pay cases. I was responsible for several ongoing tasks, including assisting with emails and data processing. I created a data sheet of over 2000 clients. I was also asked by a partner to create a concise document which outlined the three types of claim we were bringing on behalf of the clients. The document was to be sent to thousands of clients involved in the case. I developed my appreciation for the intricacies of legal analysis and my understanding of how the client remains central to the legal process. Show less

  Intern in Group Legal department

  Through discussions with team members, attending information buffets and completing my assigned tasks, I gained insight into how the law functions within financial services and the commercial world. I produced a clear process document for the secretarial team which explained how to file subsidiary accounts. I also worked on a project for General Counsel regarding the new PRA guidelines for financial services’ impact on climate change.

  I worked with Feeding Bristol, a charity focused on alleviating food poverty, after successfully applying for an 8-week pro-bono consultancy scheme sponsored by Burges Salmon. My team was tasked with producing a recommendations report about how the charity could improve their Healthy Holidays Scheme for 2020. We presented our report to an audience of 40.

  I joined the customer service team of a small independent company that sells subscription-based laundry and dishwasher products. My duties include managing the mailbox, responding to customer queries, and processing refunds and resends. I also manage the companies social media channels on weekday afternoons.

  I provide free advice to clients on a wide range of issues including benefits, debt, and legal issues surrounding employment and housing. I have also trained in client interaction and meeting clients’ needs. Working as a legal advisor has developed my ability to think holistically in order to deliver the best support to clients because there are often several solutions that can be offered.

  After participating in a HouseHack consultancy event, for which my team won the Commendation Award, the hosting company HouseHack contacted me to offer an ongoing Team Leader role. I am now involved in planning and hosting upcoming problem solving events.

  The 2 day virtual scheme afforded me a real sense of the Mishcon spirit. The firm champions personality and celebrates difference. I took part in a group task and simulated client meeting and completed four tasks during the virtual office hours. I was offered a training contract, which I have accepted.
