    • Safeway

      Jan 2001 - Mar 2010
      Department Manager

I worked for Safeway two different times during my employment with them. Initially, I was hired for their night shift where I would stock shelves and run the register. I was quickly promoted to the Grocery Manager during the graveyard shift after approximately 1 year. This position came with many more responsibilities, including scheduling for my 10 plus employees, writing the grocery order, providing excellent customer service, and dealing with many other issues that would arise in a 24 hour retail establishment. I mention customer service, because Safeway prides itself on providing excellent service where the customer is concerned. This is their number one focus, because they believe making sure the customer leaves happy every time they shop at one of their locations is what sets them apart from the rest of the many choices a customer has when choosing where they shop for groceries. I left Safeway after about 3 years to join the military. When I was finished with my military service, Safeway hired me back to again manage their night shift. After a short time, I was promoted to the dairy department manager at one of their Mountain View California locations. This change came with different responsibilities due to the fact that everything in this department is perishable. Having to order products in advance that do not stay good for long is more challenging and a greater attention to detail is necessary. In a short amount of time I learned the customers habits and I took the department from approximately 50k a week in sales to over 75k. I also cut down on the amount of loss in the department drastically. From thousands of dollars in damaged or spoiled items to almost zero. Show less

    • US Army

      Sept 2003 - Nov 2006
      Combat Medic

I enlisted in the Army shortly after the invasion of Iraq took place. I wasn't doing much but stocking some shelves at a grocery store at the time, so I decided that I should go and represent my family and friends in the military. I took a job as a combat medic, but it turns out that is basically a infantryman with extra responsibilities and an additional 80lb pack. I excelled in basic training at Ft. Benning and in my medical training at Ft. Sam Houston. I was assigned to the 3RD Armory Calvary Regiment out of Ft. Carson Colorado. I deployed to Iraq approximately 58 days after I joined my unit in Colorado and spent 357 days in the desert during a particularly hostile time in the county, as it was at the time when the locals were trying to get their constitution passed with a population vote. This brought with it some pretty interesting situations and opportunities to build some valuable skills, some lifelong relationships with my fellow soldiers, and with the locals that were giving us aid and intel. It also taught me a tremendous amount about teamwork, attention to detail, and doing whatever is necessary to accomplish the mission. These skills are at the foundation of what I'm able to bring to my future employment opportunities. Best job I ever had. Show less

    • Bergelectric

      Aug 2022 - Mar 2024

Upon my hiring, I was brought on as a project coordinator because I had limited experience in the industry. However, from the beginning of my employment I was strictly doing project engineering work including submittals, RFIs, change order requests, billing, and material procurement and tracking . I also wrote purchase orders, subcontracts and was responsible for scheduling subcontract work and training, as well as running internal meetings between the PM and field teams and between the Pm team and the General Contractor. Due to the small size of the office that I was working out of, I was tasked with supporting multiple projects simultaneously and worked closely with the PM on each of them. This gave me the opportunity to see all aspects of running a project up close, and I was able to provide quality support to each of them. Show less
