      Jan 1998 - Dec 1999
      Editor in chief

I managed and headed a team of three editors in Singapore and Malaysia for The Web magazine. My role was to revamp the entire content and design. I also had to look at means of increasing subscription rates. During my tenure, together with my subscription manager, we helped to increase our local subscription rate to 73% in June 1999 from its 35 to 40% range in previous years. With the new editorial direction, I also had to review the sales executives’ strategy in achieving their targets, too. Moreover, my editorial team had to empower the sales executives with the knowledge of the magazine’s new editorial positioning and direction in order to sell content and render support to our clients in the long run. In Dec 1999, my management signed an agreement with Singnet to publish Planet-e magazine and pulled the plug on The Web magazine. Show less

      Editor, upload magazine

I created Upload magazine, a monthly gadgets/technology magazine that was distibuted free at 110 locations (namely cafe, clubs, bars, restaurants) in Singapore. It delved in gadgets, music, movies, hip places, websites, games and everything trendy for the MTV generation. It was bought over by MPH (then in 2000) and my team of 10 people joined the publishing group. MPH was then rebranded to Blu Inc in 2002.

    • Live-e.com

      Jan 2000 - Dec 2000
      Editor in chief

I managed and headed a team of four editors and twenty freelancers for an entertainment and lifestyle youth portal in Singapore. I also had to oversee editorial content for Malaysia and Thailand. I worked and liaised with numerous content partners and technology clients. June 2000, I founded Upload magazine, another division of Live-e.com. This was to provide additional revenue to the online portal, and it was to further add a “physical and tangible” branding for the company as a whole. We launched in June 2000 with 30,000 copies distributed free at 150 locations in Singapore. I wore many hats from being an Editor for Live-e.com and Upload magazine. With the Dot.com bomb in late 2000, Live-e.com had to think about selling off Upload magazine to repay its debts. Show less
