  Technical apprentice

  My responsibilities varied greatly. My first position was a lab technician; involving gathering clay and sand samples, performing various property tests upon them and recording the data. I also assisted in brake disc metallurgy analysis. Following this, I was moved to the electric melting department where I worked on the furnaces. I used a ten tonne crane to select appropriate amounts of different metals and load these into the furnaces. I also spent a period of time in the sand core shop as the sole operator of a Hansberg core maker. Operating this machine involved performing core rig changes and operational maintenance. The apprenticeship provided me with the opportunity to embrace a variety of responsibilities and the experience allowed me an insight into life in the industry. Show less

  As a Student in full time education I found labouring to be an efficient way to earn some additional money during the holidays to support my studies. As a labourer my precise job roles varied largely between work sites. However this type of work demonstrates the ability to performed high pressured tasks in a safe manner on potentially dangerous construction sights.
