The project led to a co-organised international art competition for children, which saw lecturers from UEL acting as judges in the competition. The aim was to engage a global audience and encourage shared learning transcending cultural and language barriers to stimulate sustained outreach projects to transform the way young people engage with the arts.Working closely with the Deans of UEL and the CEO of FLE, I was the main point of contact for both parties in negotiating an agreement for UEL to host:One-week short course creative hands-on workshops in 2D and 3D practices for the winners to participate;Art exhibition of the competition winners' works;Awards ceremony for the winners.I am also involved in another ongoing academic partnership between UEL and Jiangsu University of Technology where both universities will co-write and jointly develop degree programmes in Fashion and Graphics delivered by staff of both parties with transferrable credits. The curriculum will introduce the Chinese students to produce work that hits on aesthetics of Western culture and contexts, whilst teaching them practical skills to apply to situation. This will be achieved through a style of student centred teaching and student owned learning meaning they are encouraged to question lecturers, participate in classroom discussions and learning to take on a creative journey to develop initial design ideas into final outcomes. Both projects have greatly honed in my bilingual and bicultural understanding of Britain and China allowing me to negotiate with tact and diplomacy mediating between the cultural contexts to bring results pleasing to both parties.
