    • Origin Energy

      Feb 2020 - now

      - Third year graduate role at Origin Energy working as a Power and Control Systems Engineer, providing technical engineering support to our Generation fleet all across Australia- Designed and implemented remote tap changing capability on our GT1&2 GSUT's at MSPS. This involved logic changes in DIASYS Netmation & Idol (MHI DCS) and MSC T3000 to allow site and MSC to monitor and operate taps remotely- Re-designed a safety interlock using a Fortress key interlock system at QPS. It prevents operating our GT5 66kV disconnector while the 6W7 breaker in ElectraNet's switchyard is closed. Also added a feature which prevents sending the 6W7 close permissive unless the key is inserted back into the Fortress solenoid box with the 66kV disconnector closed. Commissioning was aligned with a planned ElectraNet outage for minimal disruption to services- Interlocking for our 3 CB's in the BOP 415V Switchboard for GT3 at MSPS were modified to allow feeding the non-essential bus from the essential transformer during station outages. Wiring and PLC mods were required to modify the existing interlocks. Extensive testing to ensure desired functionality. Load study to ensure transformer is not overloaded. CB racked-out status indications also added to Citect site HMI- Recent upgrades to the DDPS CCR revealed comms issues. Resolved this by connecting the new devices through multiple serial to fibre converters and PSCA Modbus serial interface cards. Additional cabling and re-wiring of the devices as well as re-mapping of the station's virtual addresses.- The GT at EPS latched into peak firing mode when shut down after running in that mode. Logic mods in the Allen Bradley PLC were required to return unit into normal operation mode after shutdown- Various network and cyber security works such as Claroty zoning and data validation for all sites- Numerous IFC and ASB dwg updates in AutoCAD and Bluebeam for projects- Buddy for the 2022 Graduate intake and 2022-2023 Summer Student program Show less - Second year graduate role at Origin Energy working alongside the Asset Management & Development team looking after our generation assets and future growth projects, helping lead the energy transition in the National Electricity Market (NEM) towards net-zero- Progressing work on the proposed 700MW/4hr (2800MWh) Grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at Eraring Power Station to help with the green energy transition and allow greater renewable energy penetration into the electricity grid. Project size >$500mAUD where work included the preparation of functional specifications and scope of works, working closely with the environmental, H&S and commercial teams, and part-taking in the Tendering process- Travelled to site for another similar sized potential BESS project to manage contractors and other stakeholders for the geotechnical investigations and cultural heritage surveys- Travelled to Mt Stuart Power Station in Townsville and Uranquinty Power Station in Wagga Wagga to help with the implementation & testing of our Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) rollout across our generation fleet. Wrote the test plans & was heavily involved with the on-site testing to ensure the load profiles were followed while also maintaining constant communications with the trading team to relay information on to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)- Completed an options analysis report regarding the diesel generator at Quarantine Power Station for the System Restart Ancillary Services (SRAS) project. Report consisted of in-depth analysis of generator reliability and availability, SRAS availability, OPEX, CAPEX and revenue calculations for each of the options presented- Completed an in-depth data analysis report for the operator-set vacuum margin at our Darling Downs Power Station for potential optimisations- Supported Origin's 3-month Summer Student Program in 2021/2022 by participating in the Buddy Program by supporting one of the summer students Show less - First year graduate role at Origin Energy working as an Instrumentation & Electrical Engineer (Brisbane based role supporting the Spring Gully Asset - near Roma) as part of the APLNG project- Providing engineering support for site queries and operations- Working with instrumentation in hazardous areas (dossier updates, intrinsically safe calculations, checking certification)- Updating design documentation such as electrical schematics and single line diagrams- Project managing for a project >$100k (design, planning, stakeholder engagement, approvals, budget spend forecasting)- Following company core processes (such as management of change) to ensure good engineering practice and compliance- Site exposure- Scope of work documentation and project work (design - including 3D mechanical CAD models and dimensioned drawings - and implementation)- Supported Origin's 3-month Summer Student Program in 2020/2021 by participating in the Buddy Program by supporting one of the summer students Show less
