      Spark engineering camp brisbane secretary

Spark Engineering Camp is a not for profit, Youth Without Borders program which runs a camp in the July Holidays for grade 10-12 high school students, run by volunteer university students. The week long camp, allows students to experience university life and see what engineering or a career in the STEM fields have to offer. This camp is aimed at helping students who come from social of financial disadvantaged backgrounds where they have been identified as having the potential to study in a tertiary setting, but have not yet realised this potential. This camp offers full scholarships to all attending students, thanks to all our partners. As the Brisbane Secretary, I focus on running each meeting, controlling agendas and writing minutes. I also assist other Brisbane Committee members with running events, booking rooms, and organising the camp. Show less

      Nov 2015 - Feb 2016
      Summer research scholar

As a Summer Research Scholar, I have the privilege to work independently and in a small group under Dr Matthew Mason, a Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Queensland. In this role, I learned to safely operate an aerospace wind tunnel, to perform a variety of experiments to study the aerodynamics of bluff bodies in a time varying flow field. As the project progressed, myself and a small group created MATLAB scripts for post-processing of the data. This post-processing included removing outliers, quantifying trends, and creating meaningful 3D plots and moving images to represent the data. Throughout this program, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge to understand the complex phenomenon occurring from past research, and apply the previous explanations our new research. I also loved writing new scripts to accurately analyse and visualise the complex physical system occurring in the wind tunnel, helping me gain further knowledge into the MATLAB and Python coding languages.
