The Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT) is a team of multidiscipline proactive and proficient professionals committed to emergency response operations (National Incident Management System-NIMS). The HERT is an all-hazards response team specially trained and equipped to conduct emergency response operations to include triage, decontamination, infectious disease, and evacuation. HERT team members are provided uniquetraining and certification, integrated with community partners, to increase community readiness and resilience. HERT members are engaged and dedicated responders made up of all backgrounds, both clinical and non-clinical.Through training, exercise, and response, the HERT develops members into adaptive, skillful, and professional leaders able to respond to a variety of incidents. HERT members gain new knowledge, skills, and abilities that translate from emergency response to daily operations.More information regarding HERT can be found via the associated FEMA link Show less The responsibilities of our specimen center include (but are not limited to): - Evaluating the acceptability of samples that enter the lab before they are distributed to various departments within the lab including microbiology, blood bank, chemistry, hematology, pathology, cytology, and send outs. - Prepare and process patient samples for testing at various national third-party laboratories such as ARUP Laboratories and The Mayo Clinic- Taking calls from providers both inside and outside the hospital with regards to the specific test they are looking to order, the laboratory and testing methodologies available for specimen evaluation, and to provide instructions on sample collection and transport- Maintain training and competency in handling and processing a variety of specimen types such as urine, blood, and CSF as well as gross pathology specimens and body fluids.- Knowing proper protocols for handling highly contagious specimens such as prions, viruses, and bacteria. - Evaluating routine, stat, and timed draws for inpatient services and dispatching phlebotomist as needed to various parts of the hospital.- Coordinating phlebotomist needs with the house supervisor, the emergency department, charge nurses and the resident team for critical and non critical events.- Responding to emergent events such as tramas, mass transfusion protocols, rapid response team calls, and sepsis alerts. Show less My responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - The collection of specimens from compromised patients (pediatric to geriatric) using advanced techniques when applicable. - Maintaining competency of procedures, which include: venipuncture, throat and nasal swabs, nasopharyngeal suction, capillary stick, blood culture collection, and proper CDC protocol for donning and doffing PPE and N95 respirators. - Epic EHR systems; specifically Beaker and Cadence.- Interpreting, researching, and ordering appropriate diagnostic tests based on the request of the patient's provider. - Utilizing professional communication tactics when speaking to patients, providers, and medical and non-medical staff while maintaining composure in high-stress situations. Show less The responsibilities of a phlebotomy charge range depending on the circumstance and the day. Primarily these responsibilities include taking call-out phone-calls and finding coverage or coverage solutions, being an interim supervisor for disgruntled patients when upper management is not available, acting as an intermediary between staff when necessary, communicating and coordinating directives within the house (with the house supervisor) and lab to meet priority patient needs; examples include high census, un/planned down-time, understaffing, and event response (Mass transfusion protocol, trauma, rapid response team, etc.). With the hiring of a new supervisor, the decision was made to dissolve the charge position which was put in place by the previous supervisor. Show less A select committee of senior staff members in the laboratory services sector of the department were responsible for the entire hiring process for phlebotomy candidates primarily at UCHealth-Poudre Valley Hospital. Our responsibilities included: - Sorting through pools of candidates to decide a short list of individuals to interview- Contacting short list candidates to set up in-person interviews - Scheduling interviews with a panel of our team (typically 3 members) along with the phlebotomy supervisor and/or the laboratory manager- Preparing for panel interviews by printing candidate resumes, interview questions, and score sheets for each panel member- Deliberating with the team over which individual(s) to higher- Contacting the short list candidates to inform them if they were or were not the teams top candidate The original intent was to eventually expand the team to facilitate the hiring process for all phlebotomist positions in the northern region of UCHealth. Prior to this taking place, I took on the responsibility of designing resources to help streamline our process from a technological standpoint. Due to the advent for the COVID-19 pandemic which resulted in systemic staffing issues and a high rate of turnover and burnout, it was ultimately decide that dismantling the team was in the best interest of the department. Show less The role of my ambassadorship is to aid in the rebranding process of the organization by providing support to the marketing team and leadership. This primarily included facilitating communication to hospital staff about the rollout process as well as conveying questions, concerns, and comments from staff back to the team. In addition to aid offered during the rollout period, ambassadors will continue in a support role to provide assistance and input to the team, long-term, as the rollout continues and is received by the community. Under the lab instructor, it’s my responsibility to prepare all reagents and experiments for all lab sections (9 in total with 187 students) while also troubleshooting the experiment where need to ensure success for the students. 90% of my responsibilities are performed independently from the director with minimal supervision. I additionally assist in labs when needed. During the Spring 2021 Semester I assisted in re-structuring the course in an effort to better the educational experience for students. Additionally we were tasked with re-organizing the course within the parameters of COVID-19 restrictions.I often take on tasks to improve the learning for students and where Dr. Chamberlain needs help. For example, I have done extensive work in scripting, filming and editing videos for students regarding various aspects of the course. Attached are several examples of my work. Show less It is my responsibility to build all lab reports within the ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook) and troubleshoot aspects of the notebook where necessary. For the duration of the semester, I serve as the ELN administrator and am responsible for coordinating and assigning tasks (when necessary) to graduate students and undergraduate students. Because of rising costs and pressure from department administration, the decision was made by the lab instructor to cancel the ELN and proceed with a different format for the student laboratory notebooks.
