Working in the Environmental Office of Indiana State University has supplied various experiences. Depending on the buildings under construction, I conduct on-sight inspections to administer Hot Work Permits to necessary locations. On a monthly basis, I practice the Post Indicator Valves on campus to ensure they are open and functional. Also, I execute air and particle sampling and analysis. These jobs are typically done in areas of upcoming construction or reported discomfort. Furthermore, I complete hazard material separation and disposal around the time of scheduled pick up. The materials can include paints, light bulbs, and other hazards materials found on a campus. Lastly, I perform monthly inspections on fire extinguishers and control valves. Ensuring fire extinguishers are at full pressure, with clear directions, and have free access can be the difference between a minute fire and a destroyed building. Show less

During larger projects, I worked with the on-site nurse to ensure our first aid/ emergency response criteria were correct, checked AEDs on a weekly basis, maintained a presence among all levels of employees in the plant, and had daily documentation of; security notes, environmental manifests, certificates of liability, and first aid/near miss logs. With all first aid, near miss, and incidents I performed investigations to find possible prevention methods. Show less

      Safety Specialist

Confined spaces, Laser Safety, Shipboard safety Ergonomics, Safety Orientation, Traffic Safety and Pressure Vessel program managers. Ergonomics includes manufacturing, lab and computer workstation assessments while providing training on combating musculoskeletal disorders. Pressure vessels are tracked by their classification receiving certification process, system inspections and service life replacement strategies. Confined spaces require authorized entrant, supervisor and attendant training. The spaces are monitored prior and possibly continuously requiring interpretation of the results or training of the qualified person to understand them. Each space receives a preliminary entry hazard assessment in which the entry permit must determine appropriate mitigation for each hazard.Laser Safety consists of reviewing Laser system invoices to be in accordance with the CFR or designation of military exempt. Training is provided initially and annually to operators of 3B or 4 laser systems. Laboratory inspections and SOPs are reviewed annually to verify appropriate safe guards and precautions are in place. New laser systems are reviewed for engineering control implementation opportunities. As one of the building inspectors, I inspect facilities with consideration to general industry identifying deficiencies or facility hazards. When applicable, areas are inspected to construction, record keeping or Maritime specific standards. In all cases, inspections are conducted in a professional manner having conversations with employees to identify procedural issues beyond the observatory capabilities.Employee relations consists of developing work procedures that will permit their task to be completed on time in a safe manner. This often requires persistent research and interpretation of regulations. Discussions and planning begin far in advance with periodic updates to ensure roadblocks are avoided and project implementation is successful. Show less
