This taught master's course examined the US literary and historical contexts responsible for the production of an idea of 'America' which has been variously achieved and contested between 1776 and the present. My final project consisted of a 15,000-word dissertation entitled, "Transatlantic Flirtation and Cultural Insecurity: A Postcolonial Reading of Cosmopolitanism in Edith Wharton's 'The Age of Innocence' and Henry James's 'The Europeans' and 'Daisy Miller'".
