Master of Science - MS Analytical and Forensic Chemistry Merit

My MSc focused on advanced analytical techniques, including mass spectrometry, fluorescence spectroscopy, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, NMR, X-ray methods, and chromatographic/electrophoretic separations, essential for precise chemical analysis. I also developed skills in chemometrics, covering data exploration, visualization, experimental design, and statistical analysis to interpret complex datasets accurately. In the forensic science component, I learned methods for crime scene… Show more My MSc focused on advanced analytical techniques, including mass spectrometry, fluorescence spectroscopy, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, NMR, X-ray methods, and chromatographic/electrophoretic separations, essential for precise chemical analysis. I also developed skills in chemometrics, covering data exploration, visualization, experimental design, and statistical analysis to interpret complex datasets accurately. In the forensic science component, I learned methods for crime scene investigation, trace evidence analysis, and fingerprinting, applying analytical methods to forensic contexts.Research Project: Guided by Dr. Samantha Richardson, I designed and fabricated a three-layered microfluidics paper-based analytical device (µPAD) for colorimetric phosphate detection in freshwater. This portable, cost-effective lab-on-a-chip device offers a scalable solution for environmental monitoring, showcasing my ability to apply chemistry in practical contexts. Show less

      Student Intern

      1. Worked with the R&D and QC Lab to assist technicians and chemists in daily laboratorytasks.2. Collected, organized, and reported industry specific product specifications and requirementsfor industrial coatings and paints in my Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme(SIWES) report.3. Assisted in gathering, analyzing, and organising information regarding new R&D products and scientific areas of interests.4. Maintained various documents, logs, spreadsheets to track and analze data.5. Assisted in developing scientific content for company website, blog, and social media asrequired.6. Conducted laboratory quality testing of in process production coatings and paints; typicaltests include density, dry time, optical testing, viscosity, etc.7. Recorded all results and data from testing, complete forms, issue certificates based ontesting.8. Maintained facility SDS, raw material information, and file relevant paperwork physically and electronically.9. Assisted with custom color batch tinting.10. Helped R&D with projects relating to the improvement of existing products to reduce cost& improve performance, new product development, and investigating customer concerns.11. Performed chemical analysis on interior/exterior house paint to ensure compliance toNigeria Industrial Standards (NIS). Show less

    • Dukoria Environmental Laboratory

      Mar 2013 - Sept 2013
      Undergraduate Researcher

I found analytical and forensic chemistry interesting during this time. This interest arose from my undergraduate research work at Dukoria Laboratory International as an undergraduate research intern.Under the tutelage of Professor Maxwell Iwegbue in the Metal and Organic Trace Research Group in the Department of Chemistry, DELSU 2013, I evaluated the concentration and profiles of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Atlantic Horse Mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) fish species commonly consumed in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria using GC-FID.This was my first independent research work with the aim of providing information on the potential threats to public health from exposure to organic pollutants via ingestion. I was fascinated by this research because it revealed that Analytical and Forensic Chemistry play an enormous role in environmental monitoring and forecasting and in solving potential risks or health hazards in society. This period was critical in my growth as it taught me how to work within a team and ways to propose, discuss, and critically evaluate ideas and research questions. • National Youth Service Corps

      Aug 2014 - Jul 2015
      Chemistry Tutor / Cadet-In-Chief RSC-NYSC

Apart from building strong laboratory and research skills during my undergraduate studies, I also explored my interest in teaching and community service during my national service program. I assumed the role of a Chemistry Tutor at a Government Senior Secondary School. In this role, I prepared students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) and laboratory experiments. My efforts directly impacted the lives of the students as I got reports about their successes in the Chemistry School Certificate Examinations.During this period, I was elected as the Cadet-In-Chief in the NYSC-Road Safety Club, a community development service group saddled with the responsibility to educate motorists on road safety signs and regulations. These roles have developed my teaching competence, confidence in public speaking and my ability to lead a team. Show less
