    • Ampersand Agency

      May 2017 - Jul 2017
      Communications Intern

At Ampersand Agency, it was a majorly new learning experience for me, as my expertise does not lie in design or advertising. The staff were incredibly nice and open to answering questions I had about their creative process and/or fiscal process. My duties included curating blog content for clients like Brookshire Brothers, as well as coming up with itemized tag lines for certain product packages. I also was able to go to the new site of a bar that Ampersand was helping to design for their newer client, Celis Brewery, and interact with the head of Celis and offer creative ideas for their new space. Overall, this was more of a learning experience for me than any other, and I got the opportunity to brainstorm with creatives on several different subjects, and overall learned how to professionally interact with clients, coworkers and my boss. • United Ways of Texas Inc

      Jan 2018 - Aug 2018
      Communications and Advocacy Intern

This was the most impactful internship I have ever gotten the opportunity to undertake, and I am extremely grateful for the doors opened and connections made during my time at United Ways of Texas. My duties included overseeing their newest advocacy software, CQ Engage, and to create/supervise advocacy efforts put out via this software-- "Take Action" alerts that make advocacy easy and available online. For example, I would curate the text for a letter to be written to our Texas Congressmen about Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs (SNAP), or Food Stamps, and create a link for United Way's local agencies, partners, donors and volunteers to click on, participate in, send the letter, and pass on to whomever they deemed it necessary. Moreover, to house our "Take Action" alerts, I created a website via CQ Engage based on the type of advocacy needed and the subject at hand. (Attachments included).I was also able to draft several op-eds for our local members throughout Texas-- one of which, in Brazoria County, got featured in the local paper, The Eagle. (Attachments included).Of course, I was in charge of curating creative ideas for their social media, mainly Facebook and Twitter, on a weekly basis, and planned the best days and times to post. On top of posting, I also followed analytics to test which posts resonated with our audience better. Fortunately, I was able to go to the Capitol and sit in on a few testimony hearings and help my supervisor cover them via social media-- this first hand experience is invaluable to me.In addition to these duties, I was also able to create several one-pagers for our local members to carry on with their name and logo and send on to their Congressmen or legislators, depending on the subject at hand. (Attachments included.)Overall, my time with United Ways of Texas was filled with constant learning, intellectual challenges and major accomplishments, both personally and professionally. Show less
