      Histology is the scientific discipline that studies organs and tissues of the body including their preparation for viewing under a microscope. The technology integrates biology, chemistry, histochemistry and immunology in order to identify tissue and cell types as well as microorganisms and pigments. Achievements:• Gained registration as Laboratory Technician in 2007.• Achieved a Practising Certificate for Handling of Dangerous goods.• Became super-user of I.T operations for the department. Completed various projects to improve the work flow of department with the aid of current operating software and I.T. team. • Gained registration as Laboratory Scientist in 2011, after completing Grad. Diploma in Laboratory Services.• Became part of the senior scientist team for the department. Duties and Responsibilities:• Perform all duties related to the preparation of surgical specimens to be examined by a pathologist. These include embedding, cutting and routine staining of tissue samples. • Perform special stains to aid in identification of the diagnosis or disease state.• Assist pathologist during the gross processing of specimens.• Perform and document all related tasks including QC, preventative maintenance and order entry of specimens.• Train and monitor new staff.• Review & update the I.T infrastructure of the department. This includes incorporating & resolving department work flow with the operating software. Show less Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a specialised branch within the Histology, Anatomic Pathology department. It is a process of detecting antigens in cells of a tissue section by exploiting the principle of antibodies binding specifically to antigens in biological tissues. The IHC branch specialises in various panels such as lymphoma and other cancer markers & offers a total panel of 140 antibodies. This role of IHC technical specialist was given with main project focus of fixing all the key quality aspects.Achievements:• All antibodies accessed & majority re-validated to high standard. • All protocols & training documentation re-written.• All external quality programmes, RCPA, reviewed & policies re-written.• Successful re-accreditation of IHC by IANZ.• Comprehensive training of staff to meet new standards.Duties and Responsibilities:• Review the entire branch of IHC in line with the recommendations made by external quality assurance IANZ. • Ensure the changes incorporate quality assurance: ISO 15189 & NPAAC Guidelines.• Build project timeline with key deliverables.• Carry out all required course of corrective actions.• Communication with all stakeholders regarding progress of project. • Ensure all process change well documented. • Re-gain accreditation. • Re-train staff in IHC.
