  The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) is the state government agency which houses all state programs designed to protect and enhance New York State's natural environment. NYSDEC Mission Statement: "To conserve, improve and protect New York's natural resources and environment and to prevent, abate and control water, land and air pollution, in order to enhance the health, safety and welfare of the people of the state and their overall economic and social well-being."I am currently employed as an Environmental Engineer with the NYSDEC's Division of Water working with SPDES permitting programs. These permitting programs work to protect the water resources of New York State. My duties include SWPPP and site plan reviews, construction stormwater inspections, MS4 environmental program audits, CAFO inspections, Industrial Stormwater inspections, sewer extension reviews, and other SPDES general permit and individual permit-related functions.NYSDEC Region 8 includes 11 counties that lie within 4 major drainage basins in New York State. Portions of the Lake Ontario, the Genesee River, the Chemung River and the Seneca-Oneida-Oswego River drainage basins make up NYSDEC Region 8. Show less
