Special Operations is comprised of a dozen units that support both the Bureau of Field Operations and the Bureau of Investigations. Officers working in Special Operations are specially trained in the following areas: SWAT, Traffic Enforcement, Gang Suppression, Large-scale events/protests, Air Support (helicopter), Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Dignitary Protection, Bomb Sweeps & Investigations, Canine Deployment, and Security at San Jose International Airport (Airport Division). This role has required me to develop personnel, monitor a large budget, procure equipment, coordinate with local and federal partners, produce policy, and conduct internal/external investigations.Over the past several years as a command officer, I have responded and actively participated in local events including the George Floyd Protests in San Jose, Gilroy Garlic Festival Active Shooter response, and VTA Active Shooter response.
