Master's degree Geología aplicada a recursos energéticos (GEOREC) 8,94

I focused my Master´s program on the areas of sedimentology, geochemistry and paleontology. Bachelor´s thesis and Master´s thesis follow a similar paleoclimatic research framework. These investigations are based on the interpretation of isotopic, inorganic and organic geochemistry data of lacustrine sediments. For this, analytical techniques such as EA-IRMS and XRF (core-scanner) were used.Master´s thesis: Environmental evolution in the south of the Iberian Peninsula during the Holocene… Show more I focused my Master´s program on the areas of sedimentology, geochemistry and paleontology. Grade: 9.0High resolution paleoenvironmental reconstruction during the Holocene of the southern Iberian Peninsula using geochemical data derived from a sedimentary record of Laguna de la Ballestera. Various geochemical indicators (elemental ratios) and multivariate statistical treatments (PCA, cluster analysis, correlation matrix) were used to obtain robust results and interpretations. Visiting Researcher

As part of my Ph.D. project, I am doing pelagic barite separation from sapropel sediments for barium and sulfur isotopic composition at Paytan Biogeochemistry Lab at the University of California - Santa Cruz (UCSC). PhD research:Past deoxygenation events provide long-term perspectives into the responses of ocean stressors to climate variability. The Mediterranean deep-sea settings have recorded past deoxygenation events linked to rapid climate changes as organic-rich deposits (sapropels or organic-rich-layers). I analyze the geochemical, mineralogical, and paleontological variations in these marine deoxygenation paleo-archives to study the evolution and complex interplay of redox conditions, marine productivity, and biogeochemical processes during periods of climate instability. This multiproxy approach involves assessing (i) variations in trace metal concentrations (Ba, Mo, U, Mn, V) and stable isotopes (δ13C, δ18O, and δ138Ba of barite ), and (ii) dinoflagellates and ichnology analysis. Understanding marine responses to past climate changes will help better forecast deoxygenation evolution in vulnerable regions.https://paytanlab.ucsc.edu/people/ricardo-photo_lab-poster/ Show less
