    • Automation tooling systems (ats)

      Jan 1994 - Mar 1995
      Mechanical engineer/ design leader

Lead Mechanical Design group to successfully design automated machinery. Projects included: staple-loading system for hand-held incision stapler, Adept robot workcell for Motorola power supply assembly line, biomedical syringe assembly machine and data transfer connector assembly machine. “Employee of the Month” for September 1994. Left due to plant closure.

    • Acro automation

      Mar 1995 - May 1997
      Project engineer/ project manager

Successful implementation of multiple automated assembly machine projects totaling over $7M. Projects included $2M dishwasher timer assembly line, high speed (5 cyc/sec) contact welding machine, AMP fiber optic connector assembly machine, Zippo lighter case welding machine, Kwikset key cutting machine and Morton International air bag detonator plasma welding machine. Directed cross-functional team of 15 Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineers. Coached junior engineers and established standard design practices. Developed system concepts, budgets and sales proposals and successfully completed projects after contract was awarded. Achieved a gross margin of 35% on the plasma welder project for Morton International. Show less

    • Detroit tool (mid-west automation)

      Jun 1997 - Sept 1999
      Project engineer

Managed design teams to develop custom automated assembly equipment. Projects included: Servo gantry packaging machine, 3M medical device assembly machine and a sprayer pump assembly machine. Was selected by President to lead an internal R&D project to develop a custom high-speed pick and place robot. Implementation of the robot reduced equipment cost by 57% and improved throughput and accuracy. Developed CAD standards for engineering department to improve design efficiency and clarity

    • Ismeca

      Oct 1999 - Mar 2002

Promoted internally to Engineering Manager by demonstrating technical and managerial skills. Managed department of 10 mechanical engineers, 8 controls engineers and 2 technical documentation specialists. Created job descriptions for all departmental positions and hired personnel to fit needs. Allocated and tracked resources for multiple engineering projects, developed new machine concepts and budgets, defined and implemented standardized engineering practices, created a thorough internal design review procedure. Conducted employee reviews, coached team members and established individual goals for improvement. Show less Managed multiple cross-functional design teams to design custom automated assembly equipment. Projects included: two $2M ink jet manifold lines, a $1M medical sensor line with integrated blister sealing machinery and a high-speed 9-axis servo pick and place machine. Effectively interfaced with all facets of organization from sales through installation crew. Assisted applications engineers develop and validate machine concepts and budgets. Interacted with customers and vendors to negotiate contracts. Represented Ismeca during technical sales presentations and conferences. Show less
