Promoted to new Legal Affairs department as Assistant VP to manage bad faith litigation, mass tort litigation (leading several multi-carrier settlement consortiums), and designed auditing programs and attorney communication and fee control programs. Key member of team which launched the national hospital program and designed the hospital policy and claims system. As Vice President and Sr. Legal Affairs Counsel I managed class action cases posing largest exposures . Developed claims management protocols and assisted in drafting new policy forms and claims manuals. Served with risk management team to write client newsletters and respond to physician inquiries.   Recruited to this position to lead multiple client-facing departments for Premier Insurance Mgmt. Services (PIMS), providing management services and insurance resources to the healthcare industry. Initially responsible for managing the legal & claims management departments with exposure to hospital claims up to $60 million per occurrence.Managed American Excess Insurance Exchange, RRG ("AEIX" was largest national non-profit RRG-$400 million in assets) an excess and reinsurance carrier for healthcare systems. Daily responsibilities included providing legal services, litigation management and risk management to three corporations, along with client hospitals and healthcare systems. Trained medical malpractice claim adjusters and risk managers while leading the quality function. Provided corporate secretary function, board training, and compliance functions. Drafted insurance policies, coverage opinions, and negotiated catastrophic injury lawsuits. My team provided on-site risk management and quality services to hospitals. We developed unique nation-wide quality improvement collaboratives to improve clinical quality and decrease patient risk, including, a labor and delivery project (recipient of a three year AHRQ grant).Responsible for turning "back room" functions into revenue-producing departments through grants and services performed for the quality consortiums and innovative consulting services. Designed a new Annual Benchmarking program measuring hospitals across 22 metrics enabling targeted quality improvement efforts.Career highlights include successfully overturning a $318 million verdict and establishing new favorable law for hospitals; developing fronting programs to help hospitals obtain support in state Patient Compensation Funds; designing attorney fee and auditing programs to control costs; and obtaining "Top Box" client satisfaction scores for my departments 15 years in a row (exceeding annual goals).
