MISSION We enthusiastically offer children the ability to participate in whatever extracurricular pursuit they desire without hesitation due to cost or any mobility issues. Children from single parent and lower income households participate less in extracurricular activities, robbing them of the benefits that come with participation. In addition to enhancing academic learning and increasing rate of the student staying in school, there is a multitude of social and practical assets gained. PURPOSEWe aim to bridge the transportation and cost gap for those kids through a volunteer network at the school campus level. Volunteers will assist in transportation to and from practices or meetings and/or donate monetarily to diminish any cost issues that may hinder a child from enjoying extracurricular activities. Overall, my position was based on partnering and coordinating with college campuses to implement Screening and Brief Intervention (SBI) as a primary prevention tool to address risky alcohol use and related risky behaviors among college students. I worked closely with selected campus sites, and project psychologist to facilitate the goals of the organization and SBI project, which included faculty/staff trainings. As the Program Coordinator I was the liaison between Texans for Safe and Drug-free Youth (formerly Texans Standing Tall), the Texas Department of Transportation, and SBI campus program teams. Additionally, I worked on a college alcohol policy database to analyze and evaluate its effectiveness.I have attended several statewide and national public health/substance prevention conferences wherein I had the opportunity to present and promote my project and network with prevention professionals. Similarly, I have attended legislative appointments on Capital Hill with local representatives to advocate for youth substance abuse prevention policy.I participated in the fulfillment of grant objectives, compliance requirements, program budgets and grant reporting requirements.
