  I worked on a final year project which was about designing and implementing a micro controller based hybrid micro grid of solar, biogas and the utility. This system was designed so as to reduce dependence on the utility systems that supply power and rather concentrate on using the renewable energies of solar and biogas. Most work was done on the FM band and the UHF band. This work was mainly done in frequency allocations and monitoring. I communicated with the interference stations that were transmitting at high power and causing interference and shutting them off if the interference persisted.   Under this program, I trained mainly in all electrical sections where practical work was done in the installations, testing and repairing equipment under the Assets and Management department in the various sections like metering, Distribution Transformers, Power transformers, Cables and Protection. Under the Metering section, I tested laboratory and field meters, made reports of both domestic and Industrial meters. I also carried out metering installations, metering audits and meter calibration. Under the Distribution transformer section, I carried out tests on field transformers and new transformers. These tests included the insulation resistance test, short circuit tests, pressure test and polarity tests. I also did transformer repairs on the bushing and the studs that were burnt and made reports all transformers that passed in that section. Under the Cable section, I made insulation resistance tests on the cables that where to laid in the ground, I did cable terminations on the feeder pillars and also trouble shot faulty cables. Under the protection section, I worked on a number of protection schemes on the Umeme distribution networks so as to keep the faults from affecting the lines. These protection schemes included impedance protection schemes, over current protection schemes. I also tested metering units that were new and from the field Show less

  I installed a 20kVA back-up generator at Nakasero. This generator was a CAT –MANTRAC make. It was Installed with an Automatic Control Switch which made the generator supply the residential when the mains supply was insufficient to supply the load or when there was a load shedding. I also laid a 16mm2 3-cored cable from the generator to the distribution circuit board

  Under this program, I was the project engineer for constructing a three and a half kilometer long 33kV line in Mabindi Village, Muhanga town council in Rukungiri district. This was a sub-contract from xing-xing a Chinese line constructing company that had contracted to build a 25 km long line. I was supervising works of this line and making weekly reports for the site and costing the project as well. Under my charge , I had 8 casuals, 2 lines men , 1mate and 1 foreman and I had to make sure each of their work was done to perfection and making sure the work was done under the safety rules and regulations of the company. I was also made sure all the material on site was procured on time and appropriate pole structures were raised according to the survey and drawing maps. Show less
