  - Planning and supervising all kinds of engine department activities.- Reporting to the Master and vessel manager on all matters concerning engine department, which include the performance of all machinery, maintenance, inventory of stores, and personnel.- Providing technical advice and assistance to those responsible for the efficient conduct of the vessel in general.- Fully responsible for the operation, care and maintenance of all mechanical machinery, electrical, and electronic equipment on the vessel.- Ensuring that maintenance as laid down in the Planned Maintenance System is carried out including unplanned maintenance and repair.- Assisting with budgets for all repairs and maintenance, mechanical spares and consumable stores in cooperation with the Master and subsequently controlling costs.- Having overall responsibility for co-ordinating all repairs and maintenance on the vessel regardless of the department on board that requires the service.
