I was tasked with organizing events for World Autism Awareness Day as well as coordinating and facilitating a club for students with Autism (Autistic Advantage Club) which focused on issues experienced by the students. I also worked 1:1 with students in the classroom setting. I kept students on- task and encouraged them to self-advocate.These experiences helped me gain a greater understanding of Autism and allowed me to put into practice the principles I learned in the classroom. • Special Needs Activity Program (S.N.A.P.)

      Sept 2012 - Apr 2013
      Coordinator/Volunteer

I worked with a team of coordinators to train, supervise, and guide volunteers as well as organize, plan, and promote the special needs activity program. I was part of a specific group of coordinators that focused on organizing weekly schedules, setting up and taking down equipment, and illustrating different activities that volunteers can engage with the children in.I recorded my experiences in a journal which was part of a formative analysis on the program. The formative analysis focused on self and team reflection through a description of experiences with volunteers, team members, mentors, issues that were encountered, how they were dealt with, and what could be adjusted in order to be more effective in dealing with these issues.
