My dissertation examined 'How gender and sexuality affected the reigns of Early Modern monarchs and their subsequent portrayal in popular culture, a comparative study between Christina of Sweden, James VI and I and Henri III.' It allowed me to explore the crossover between history and popular culture in relation to gender and sexuality in Early Modern Europe. Whilst at the university I was involved in a number of other activities. These included volunteering at Winchester Cathedral, founding the Winchester Student Classics Society, and working in part-time employment to support my studies. Show less

Within the variety of modules available at Birkbeck, I was able to explore medical history and the religious experiences of early modern women. Throughout my degree I continued to develop my research skills and extensively expanded my knowledge of the seventeenth century. Studying at Birkbeck allowed me to continue working to support my studies and to volunteer which allowed me to build on my extra-academic knowledge. During this time I volunteered as a tour guide at the Hitchin British Schools Museum and gained further teaching assistant experience at Hitchin Girls' School. I worked part-time at Sainsbury's for the majority of my degree before moving into employment at the V&A. Show less
