      Graduate Assistant and Doctoral Candidate

As a graduate assistant, I am responsible for teaching graduate and undergraduate courses on elementary social studies methods and undergraduate courses in the historical foundations of education. The elementary social studies methods courses focus on the value on creating inclusive learning communities for young learners and developing both the content knowledge and pedagogical skills of pre-service educators. The courses in the historical foundations of education emphasize the cyclical nature of school reform and the commonalities between eras in an attempt to explain why we view public schools as we do. I have also had the opportunity to help supervise, train, and evaluate interns in secondary school placements. My research interests center around civic education and the creation of the good citizen, a theme of my own dissertation. This dissertation will be submitted in the Fall of 2013 for a December graduation. Course taught:• EDF 3514/AMH 3931: History of Education in the United States• EDF 2005: Introduction to Education• EDF 5552: The Role of Schools in a Democracy• EME 2040: Introduction to Educational Technology• SSE 6177: Social Studies in the Elementary School• SSE 4312: Social Studies for Diverse Learners• SSE 5945C/ Practicum in Social Studies Secondary Education Show less
