In 2001 he was the President of a Parliamentary Commission of Investigation (CPI) which investigated murders and physical and psychological violence committed against rural activists by armed groups. Frei Anastácio was also Superintendent of the Colonization and Agrarian Reform Institute (INCRA), which was responsible for implementing the agrarian reform in the State of Paraíba.Responsibilities included: • Participation in the planning and carrying out of hearings and investigations related to the CPI;• Participation in the drafting of the CPI’s final report.
