      Upon completing my Honours Degree I was employed by leading Water Engineering Firm Barr and Wray. I worked in the Sport and Leisure sector that involved the design and installation of complex Mechanical Plants for the Filtration and Water Treatment of swimming pools, spa's, hydrotherapy pools and water parks. My role ranged from dealing with initial enquiries to the design of the mechanical plant and finally on to the preparation of tender packages for lucrative projects. This involved a detailed pricing process and the reviewing of detailed specification and contractual documents. I was solely responsible for the preparation of tender bids ranging in value from £50 thousand - £1 million.Key Roles Included• Sizing and selection of mechanical plant equipment including pumps, pipework, valves, filters and air blowers• Carrying out complex Mechanical calculations regarding heat loads, filtration rates, motor efficiency and power consumption of plant equipment• Preparation of budget quotations• Preparation of Tender quotations and completion of Cost Schedules • Development of detailed pricing matrixes• Presentation of costs to Management Show less

      Principal Cost Engineer

      My current role is a Principal Cost Engineer for BAE Systems, Naval Ships division, where I work on the Aircraft Carrier Programme. This programme is for the design and build of the 2 largest ships ever to be made in the UK and has over three thousand employees working on the programme. The project value is approximately six billion pounds and is scheduled to run until 2018 making it the largest project in the UK at present. This role has given me the opportunity to continue my professional development through ongoing internal training programmes as well as presenting the opportunity for me to complete my Level 3 Diploma in Estimating which is an industry recognised qualification created by the Engineering Construction Industries Training Board.Key Roles Include• Manage the Cost Risk Analysis for the whole Aircraft Carrier programme• Produce robust costs for tender submissions in response to Requests for Quotations from Industrial Partners and take costs through detailed Request for Bid Approval reviews with senior management• Prepare supporting Assumptions, Exclusions and Dependencies documents to form the basis of contractual negotiations on tender bids• Monitor job progression against estimated budget through the Project Controls database • Liaise with Operations staff to gain understanding of the work scope involved and man hours required in order to produce robust Estimates • Complete ship surveys and create Scope of Work documents on which to base Estimates for additional works needed on the ship• Liaise with Procurement to gain up to date quotations from suppliers and sub-contractors• Track and carry out 3 monthly reviews of the live project Bill of Material• Support in the production of a risk register for the project and manage risk mitigation as the project progresses• Support MoD auditors in auditing estimates produced by myself and the team Show less
