I am Head of the Heritage team and provide strategic advice and guidance on heritage issues from due diligence prior to option agreements through to the satisfactory discharge of planning conditions. I strongly advocate the advantages of utilising the heritage resource to raise appreciation and awareness of (pre)historic landuse and have advised on the benefits of heritage interpretation as part of masterplan proposals from small residential proposals to Garden Village schemes. As well as contributing to environmental statements, and working collaboratively with designers on sensitive masterplans that take account of heritage assets, I project manage invasive and non-invasive works by archaeological contractors. I have acted as an expert heritage witness at public inquiries across England and Wales and have extensive experience of local plan examinations. Show less I am responsible for assessing potential development impact upon a site’s archaeological & heritage resource. Project manage all necessary archaeological site investigations for planning applications and EIA's. Involved in the following sectors: residential, Renewables across UK and Republic of Ireland, recreation and leisure, urban regeneration. Act as client liaison between archaeological contractors and local planning authorities throughout the UK. This ensures adequate levels of site investigation are undertaken & sufficient mitigation agreed to aid planning approval. I have also been an expert witness for cultural heritage concerns at three successful public inquiries; on behalf of Dover District Council for an inappropriately sited wind farm site at North Dover; in support of an Energy from Waste Facility at St Dennis, Cornwall & on behalf of Carmarthenshire council against the Bryn Llywelyn wind farm. I adhere to best practice techniques to ensure that the archaeology, and associated cultural heritage sites likely to be affected are afforded proper assessment, both in direct physical impacts and potential change to setting. Early consultation with relevant local planning authorities, and where necessary, Historic England, Historic Scotland & Cadw, informs the approach at the earliest design stage of a project. Consultation continues throughout a project to ensure transparency and communication of the proposals and their implications for the historic environment. This approach allows the local planning authority to determine applications based upon information provided at their request and ensures that the cultural heritage resource is assessed transparently and in keeping with national and local plan policies.
